Hello! I have this tree in my yard and do not know what it is. It was a very pretty tree with the branches growing parellel to the truck when I moved in 12 years back. Now the branches are just growing out and not so pretty anymore. I hear it's a decorative tree when pruned right. Can anyone tell me what this is and when and how to prune it to the proper shape?

I try to take one day at a time -- but sometimes several days attack me at once.

From what your pictures show you abd your neighbor live in what used to be a pine timber plantation. Pruning's kind of out of the question for trees that big - you wouldn't get regrowth from those big limbs.

If you intend to put in a lawn be advised that lawn fertilizer is a no-no for pine trees. Pine bark borers will take over & perhaps kill the tree.

Well, all I know really is that when I bought the house in 2000, it had limbs that seemed to grow parallel along the trunk. They said it was an expensive, decorative tree. Now, the limbs are growing out from the tree and it's not so attractive anymore. It's not that big, but I'm just trying to figure out what, if anything, I need to do with it to make it look better...

Trees will grow into their form. If you do not like the adult form, prune for new growth and retain the juvenile form.

Evergreens like acidic soil and will only produce foliage where the sun reaches. Prune out any bare branches that do not exhibit foliage.

I love the sweet scents wafting in the breeze. I stop to admire the vibrant colors of all living things. And people think me odd. Then ODD I am!!!
