I've began a small(ish) garden on my patio using only pots and buckets, has anyone had any luck with watermelon growing in a pot? I have three large watermelon plants in 10" pots stationed on a trellised, sturdy metal rack out on my patio, they're beginning to take over the entire thing, no flowers have come out yet, so, I'm just curious if the size of the pots would be able to support fruit growth? This is my first time growing watermelon, so, I really don't know anything about them.

On the same note, I've started some cantaloupe as well... Will these eventually vine out and try to strangle my other plants like the watermelon tried to do?

No advice, but good luck with that! I tried watermelon last year and even got a few small ones, but I planted too much in too small an area and I think the watermelon and cantelope competed for water and nutrients and neither one did very good. But in TX you should have better luck fwith a longer season. I've grown tomatoes in pots on my patio and they did great!

This is my first time that I've been able to garden in a few years, last time I had an entire back yard, so, it's a big switch only being able to use pots, lol.
Though I have 2 greenhouses out there, one 4 foot the other 6 foot, I keep most of my herbs and stuff in there, they love it!
I didn't know what my success rate would be for Watermelon so, I sowed WAY too many and now I can't seem to pluck any of the seedlings, they're my babies! Lol!

Also, new question...
I was sowing some Moonflowers earlier and went to check on my grape vine and I noticed that there are 3 small, but very noticeable mushrooms growing in the soil! That's not good! Could I be using a bad grade of soil? o.0;

I'm lucky to be in a hot area though, my boyfriend asked me if I would grow a myriad of different peppers for him so he could make super fresh salsa, so, I had him pick out the ones he wanted and they've gotten huge already. Jalapenos are already like 3 inches long! Love it!

Welcome, Mendon.
I have never heard of melons successfully grown in a pot. Let us know how that works out. You could share your babies for adoption to others with the space and inclination to grow. Adoption is a lovely thing.
When mushrooms grow in my soil, I know the soil is very fertile and healthy. I just pluck them out if they are in my way. Congrats on your jalapenos!

I'll post some pictures here if you're curious about their growth! :)
If I can figure out how to anyway! Jajaja.

Way to go! It took me longer. But I'm one of those 'old dogs'.
They look healthy.

Jajaja, well, I should hope so, I watch out for every pest I can! Though I need to figure out how to keep gnats out of my soil... I'm trying an insecticidal soap that looks like it's killing them on contact, but, every day there's more. Le sigh.
Oh, I apparently killed those mushrooms with that soap too by spraying the soil... Oops... I love the look of mushrooms! That's kinda odd, lol.

This looks like rust to me. This means removing any affected leaves and treating with a fungicide. Ask for the best products at your local extension.
