HI, I am trying to identify a plant but have no idea how to upload a pic on here! I clicked the pic icon and it's asking me for w http line? it's on my hard drive not the web... Can anyone give me a little help and I can then show you a plant that has stumped me. It's a plant from England I bought when back on a visit with my wife from China (I am English, just living here) My soil is clay type but this seems to thrive in the soil given. Thank you for any assistance given. DC flowers%20and%20stuff/Newby.jpg"align="left" alt="[Linked Image]" class="post-image" style="height:auto!important;max-width:100%!important;"/>

Hi me again, sorry but I have found out how upload :-) hope somebody can help me identify this beast, I love the scent off it, almost a herb smell (could possibly be) I bought many seeds back and when planting them I carefully tagged them, the wife did the cleaning in the garden and hey presto! they vanished. Any help would be appreciated, I have many other questions I hope I am not a bore in the future. I am a little wet behind the ears as they say. Thanks again in advance. DC

Well thank you, I know one of the varieties I bought back was a marigold. That would be it then. Hehe. I always assumed the marigold to be the big yellow headed beast from near my local park back in Birmingham. The flowers tend not to stay long but more and more crop up every few days and bloom about 14 days later. A wonderful looking piece though, I will put it in the bank next to my home made pond. :-) Thank you again Cinja and Carol. Most swift and helpful. DC

its proper name is Calendula
Every plant started out as a seed ,and then came the waiting game.

its proper name is Calendula I beg to differ with you - it is a form of marigold. I grow lots of calendulas and they have different flowers and leaves. calendula images The marigold pictured in the original post is Disco Marietta is a single-flowered marigold with yellow-orange petals featuring deep mahogany red splotches that look like paintbrush strokes at the base. But this picture is of marigolds, Tagetes Kingdom: Plantae (unranked): Angiosperms (unranked): Eudicots (unranked): Asterids Order: Asterales Family: Asteraceae Subfamily: Asteroideae Tribe: Tageteae Genus: Tagetes It is a different plant altogether. The only real commonality is a common name for Calendula is pot-marigold because it can be eaten.

It's definately the marigold, Taetes. calendula has so many more petals and the leaf shape is completely different.

As found on Wikepedia: Tagetes is not to be confused with the genus Calendula, which goes by "marigold" in some areas. See "marigold (disambiguation)" for this and other species commonly called marigold.
