I've tried putting a wreath on the door but the storm door closes too tightly. I've tried using a wreath hook and hang one over the storm door but it slaps around on the door when it's opened and shut. Wonder what I can do.

Very pretty, Sheri. I cannot hang a wreath on my door either. Too many issues with the wind here.

Sheri:

I use a strong suction cup hook to hold mine on.--the over-the-door hook is a good idea also, but either way, you need to get a thinner wreath. Possibly even a flat one??

maybe you could use one of those scotch picture hangers,, the kind that peels off the wall when your done and doesn't leave a mark,,??? tie a small string on the back of your wreath to hang off the hook of the scotch hanger??

I use a thin thumb tack on the top and bottom of the door, then tie fishing line to each one from the top and bottom of the wreath, keeps it in place and no one sees the clear line grin

I got a call from a solar place. Now I'm wondering if solar panels/energy increase the value of a home. Anyone done any research on this?

Never mind. I read some articles and it's as I thought. It doesn't increase the value of the home although they do sell faster than regular homes.

We just got solar on our home through Solar City; they're nation wide through Home Depot. It doesn't increase your house value however we have a leased system from them for $6500 at 10mw which will cover ~70-75% of our power consumption.

We went leased (20 year lease) as we got advice from several companies as:
"There is no market for a 20 year old, out of warranty, solar panel or inverter, it's cheaper for them to sell you the equipment at $5/panel after 20 years than to pay to have their crew come to your location, take everything down, dispose of it, pay for an entire crew, and patch your roof".

Thank you for the information. How much were your monthly payments if you don't mind my asking. And what is 10 mw? Can you change those to kwh? per month?

We don't have any monthly payments for the solar (as we paid $6500 up front); we sell the kwh to the power company and it offsets our intake price accordingly dollar for dollar. We pay the power company 6.7c-7.5c per kwh and each month we use ~1167kwh. The panels will pay for themselves within 5 years.

The system we have is a 9.84 kw, which is one of their largest systems that they install residentially under the program we're on.

It's cool too, since we're under a lease, if anything happens to a panel they'll come out and repair it, no questions asked... Plus I can monitor the output at the meter, on their site, and on an app on my phone...

hum our coop won't buy power. All they will do is put in some kind of special meter so that my energy doesn't register.

So is the 9.84 kw/h? Which would mean you are generating approximately 3541.80 kw/h per month? based on a 12 hour a day average?

Different areas handle it differently, depends on how they want to regulate it pretty much...

We get a special meter too, I think ultimately it ends up about the same, a wash of what we send vs use ultimately.

I'm not sure how it's all calculated down the pipe, I don't want to end up giving you misinformation to turn you off on the idea... They're pretty easy to talk to if you want more info though.

I'm having my inside doors painted. Most of them have been stripped and we're taking the others. We found out these doors are probably original to this house which was built in 1928 so we'd be dumb to replace them. They have lots and lots of coats of paint on them.

I am glad you are taking them in to be done, Sheri. Lead paint can put nasty things in the air you breath.

We're painting them. We thought about leaving them natural with some type of top coating but we've decided to paint.

I actually had an interior decorator come and give me advice. Johnny went to someones house where all the doors had been stripped and left natural. He liked them. So we had a bunch of ours stripped several months ago and I couldn't decide if I liked them or not. The decorator said it makes the door the focal point of whatever room they're in. I don't think that's the look I want. Johnny has another client who has all her interior doors painted red. Benjamin Moore Red just like I painted the front door.

well, all of my doors are white---to go with the walls--then I have wood colored trim around them and the whole house. The guy who built the house said he had seen that in a house & liked it, so that is what he did here--(we bought after it had been built)

PS my red door is only red on the outside.--inside it is white also

I keep meaning to repaint our home but we never seem to get around to it.

Right now, I'm just focusing on getting some neglected beds in order and I want to plant some marigolds as a border around the garden. I'm also thinking about putting something along my walk but I don't know what. I don't like petunias or pansies, so I may do some sort of ornamental bush or something like that.

Wish I knew someone locally who makes drapes. The lady who made the ones in my bedroom is swamped until after January 1st. I'm keeping the rod she put up when she made the ones hanging now but I want something a little less structured - these are double pinch pleated (whatever that means). They matched a duvet but I've replaced the duvet with a quilted spread. I suppose everything blends ok but I do want a lighter look. Wish I had paid more attention in home ec in the 8th grade.

as I recall--you buy the expensive material, and flat drapery tape at the fabris store. the full width of the material is the width of each panel.--yoiu need 2 & 1/2 tiems the width of the window for each pair of drapes.
--you fold over the top of the material about 1 inch & iron it in place. then you fold again the width of the tape, pin in place & iron again. Place the tape down pin in place--re-iron & sew along the top & bottom. NOW---the tape had places that one puts 3 pronged pins into-----you gather up 3 places per pin & place one every say 10 to 12 inches. (I seem to recall you cannot do this wrong as the tape is made to not do it wrong. you then hem the sides by folding over about 1 inch on each side ironing & sewing in place---bottom measure to fit & fold, iron & sew---we did it when I was a freshman in H/S

but why not jsut wait unrtil january----it will come sooner or later---:)
