Lovely pictures. This another plant, all kinds, that I grow outdoors because they make easy care ground covers.

Hmm asparagus fern out side, I don't think it would work here, I have enough trouble keeping it alive in the house.

Dodge - I move my huge asparagus fern outside for summer each year here in zone 6 and it flourishes. We just moved it back indoors last weekend - I will try to get a picture of it later. It loses all its leaves each winter as it's so very dry in our house, but perks right up and does very well outdoors again the next summer season.

Great idea Dodge, but this plant is in a HUGE pot and quite large! It's probably bigger than the bathroom floors!!!

Finally had a chance to take a picture of my asparagus fern.
It's next to a 3 foot tall mini fridge for size comparison.

Thanks Dodge and Bill!

This is what it looks like after a summer of direct hot sun, and lots of rain this summer too, though.

It will turn all brown and lose most of its leaves, either to the dry heat in the house, or the fact that it's a favorite of our black cat Salem, to eat!!! rolz uhuhh tapfoot

That is beautiful Lynn. Mine isn't nearly that large and it did almost die in the house this past winter. I'm thinking of keeping it in the greenhouse this year to see what happens.

So it's time to bring in the gigantic asparagus fern. I brought it in a few weeks ago when we had a cold snap and almost immediately it started turning brown so I put it back outside. I've got it on the top back step against the house but I'm concerned the 25º weather tonight will do it in. We have a humidifier on our air conditioning units but it must be really dry in this house.

How was your fern this morning, Sheri---

Could you find a cooler place for it in the house and then mist it every day that or put a rounded plate with pebbles full of water near it?? or both---so as to help with the humidity areound it??

I left it on the enclosed back porch so every time we open the door it gets a blast of cold air. It can't stay there forever though because as people come it it gets hit or pushed or the dog might knock it over. Right now it looks great.

I can't imagine having to mist it every day. I only have a few houseplants because I don't take care of them inside. Houseplants are a lot of trouble. I can put it on a plate of pebbles and water though. I'll give that a try.

Asparagus fern story here.

Light: Dappled shade is ideal, although it can be acclimated to more light.
Water: Keep it evenly moist; it prefers humidity during the growing season.
Temperature: Warm, preferring up to 70ºF. Don’t go below 55ºF for long.
Soil: Use loose, well-drained potting soil.
Fertilizer: During growing period, use weak liquid fertilizer weekly.
Also says the asparagus fern doesn't mind being a little pot bound.. Like 2 years in apot.

Still on the back porch and it looks great. I'll have to move it into the house tomorrow though or it will get knocked over Thanksgiving Day for sure.

I was not thinking--it is warmer where you live than where I live....it would not last long here even out on a closed in porch.

Our porch is like part of the house and is heated just like the house. I brought it inside the house night before last and so far so good. I might sit it back on the porch so it can get a blast of air when we open the door until company comes again.

I need to get a picture of it. It's so pretty.

it's started turning brown. I need to get it back outside for a day or two. You'd think changing it from house temps to outside temps would hurt it but it doesn't seem to bother it at all.

In my first post I had commented on your asparagus fern.
while I was doing that, you had posted the photos of your greenhouse.
So then I edited my original post & added a comment about your greenhouse photos...hence my use of the word edit--sorry to confuse.

61 ?? You lucky ducky. I am sure your fern will be thrilled too. It has been warm here this weekend, and is supposed to be 55 today. I think this crazyness is why I am coming down with yet another cold. why

It's been pouring down rain so I didn't put the fern back out. It has been in the 60's for a few days. If it isn't raining tomorrow I'm going to put it out for a while at least.

Hope you're not getting sick Juniegirl. Lots of people around here are really sick.

Thanks Sheri--I have a slightly raw throat & I have to blow my nose every once in awhile--so it is good timing with the bad weather.. I was going to have to go watch my Grandson tomorrow---but I am not going now as my DD thinks they will cancel her school--They had better---I don't need them BOTH on the roads (they have a day care at her school)

keep us updated on the fern--I almost feel like I own it as well as you---this has gotten personal. Take good care of the darling.

The fern was going down hill fast, turning brown and dropping it's foliage or leaves or whatever it's called on an asparagus fern. It was 39° today and I sat it outside and after a few hours what was brown had turned to yellow and the entire plant looked healthier. My house must be toxic. I was concerned it would die for sure if I left it out all night so I put it in the little pretend greenhouse.

I dont know about now b/c it sounds pretty bad. I think ifmit were mine I would put in in a sunny warmish spot in my house & keep up the humidity. Put a bowl with pebbles in it near it and mist it once or twice a day. I seem to remember they like humid & warm temps.

I forget what the instructions said about watering though

I thought they liked humidity but I guess the water in rocks situation just wasn't enough. It really perked up being outside in the cold and looks a lot happier in the pretend greenhouse than it did in here. I'm going to leave it out there for a few days and see what happens. I think it likes it grin Maybe I'm bad company devil

Even being inside and in the same spot the fern has perked up and has even grown

I don't remember deleting the pictures of my little greenhouse.

Notice the long, green tendril like things on the above picture? There are 3 of them that are almost curly. One circles around the top of the plant. I've never noticed the plant do this before. Will these tendrils leaf out (so to speak)?

Just let them be an let us know what happens.
Then we can learn something.

I know some of the other plants do than an get new leaves an you can cut them off an make new plants>>
Keep your eye ball on them.. angdev

Nice best.
My mom raised that many moons ago.. It does keep on giving.
Our leaves used to turn yellow an fall. I used to have one, but not any more.
Do spray it with water?

I don't spray it dodge. I take it to the kitchen sink and water it until it's saturated.

I had this thing sitting on the back step all summer and it's gigantic again. Not sure if I want to go through the trouble of bringing it indoors again.

Mine winter outdoors here well. And they are in the ground. Not too sure if they will for you too.

Asparagus Ferns like lots of humidity (misting) but more importantly, they like lots of water! If the soil dries out completely, they will always shed.

I water it all the time that's how I know it sheds. I carry it into the kitchen and it makes a mess. We have a humidifier on our heating unit but I guess it's still dry with the heat on. Wish I could leave it outside.

It's Colt. That stupid plant cut my finger worse than a papercut. It reminds me of the little shop of horrors.

Yes, asparagus ferns look fluffy and soft. That hides some nasty little thorns under there. I learned not to plant them anywhere I wanted to walk by.
