I've never taken my Devils back bone outside. Don't know why I just never did!! This year I decided I would after reading that some of these are actually grown in ground in the right zones and will also bloom little cardinal bird shaped blooms if the conditions are right~ as well as turn pink/ burgandy edged,, These are really turning burgandy! Some of the larger leaves have compleetely turned .. I do Believe I will leave it out as long as possible until the heat of the summer makes it show signs of suffering .
Pretty cool I think that the verigated leaves are turning such a dark color

Have you said why it's called devil's backbone? Do you know?
I believe the story goes as the leaves are formed on the stem they are staggared~ as a spine would be~ and as the leaves turn darker it appears to be a back spine of a devil.
Thanks Jiffy I'll get you out some soon!!!
This is how full it was Before our last storm and it got knocked over and lost a lot of leaves and stems
Hopefully it will restore it's fullness this spring/summer!

You have a fine looking plant. Mine is just beginning to show leaves. With this cold snap I will bring it in. Do you know if they like full sun or shade? Lot of water or a little?
Swapguy! They like dappled sun or morning sun afternoon shade or inside indirect sun at least mine does winter time I don't water as much ~ spring I don't let dry out all the way I keep it somewhat moist but not wet..

I will age ungracefully until I become an old woman in a small garden..doing whatever the Hell I want!
