ON 5-22-11
I "finally" potted up my 2011 water lilies (there are several small ones in one pot--and I have my doubrs as to if they will actually bloom this year).
My intention is to buy one that is of regular size, so as to ensure blooms---I am hoping to go one day soon to buy one of another color (supposedly these are pink)

BUT today as I added some extra water to my container, I found a leak-- badday egad
so before any more lily buying happens, I must put these in another bucket & drain, dry & reseal the leak this one has--- rolz

So sorry you have a leak, Carol, but I am pretty sure those plants WILL bloom! I think the tuber I sent you last year was not any bigger than the ones you have this year.

Thanks Lynne, Oh how I hope & pray that you are right !!!----what I am really going by though is the size of the pads----one is a bit bigger than say a half dollar & the others are smaller than that--but hey time will tell, huh?? hey, perhaps I will get minature lilies ??? That would be so cool.....

Tonight I found one of my empty rubbermaid containers & the water lily pot is resting in there, along with most of the water from the leaky container---
I then scrubbed out & rinsed the half barrel & set it out to dry for 24 hours, as the directions I found on-line said to do.

Tomorrow night I will plug up the crack with either silicone caulk or with some Garilla glue. (Hopefully that is the same as "Shoe Goo". why
Then that has to dry for 24 hours before I can refill the tub.----
In the mean time, I am hoping that I can find a water lily. to add to my water garden prayers
I plan on going to Home Depot tomorrow afternoon. Wish me luck !!!

below here is a picture of my barrel with its leak repaired---if you notice the white "strip" in about the 1 o'clock position---that is where I patched it
In my tub there are 4 small tubers--one by itself & 3 that are attached to each other---I am so afraid that none will bloom this year though--we shall see I guess--- why

Carol - have you put in the tomato fertilizer spikes this year? I add more each time I go into my pond to clear out old blooms and pads. The other day I had 15 blooms!

Well, I was so busy before my DD's wedding that I never did add more food spikes, Lynne--but the thursday before we left for Cape, I of course had 3 bloom heads starting to break the water. When I got home it was clear that 2 h ad bloomed & were spent--(as a matter of fact I never could find the one to cut it off) so yesterday (8-3) the 3rd bloomed & I did not get a picture--so I made sure to go out today & get one. and here it is.....It is really more white than it looks in this picture--

Better late than never I guess....

Dodge--here is my 2 latest water lilies----they are blooming later this year for some reason----

[Linked Image]

I saw the picture of your water hyacinth, over in my 2010 thread----if I have my facts straight (& I may well not have them straight) the water hyacinth does not bloom. I had some one year, they looked just like yours---I just kept mine small by pinching off the runners when it would grow---I really think it is just used to cleanse/purify the water----if your ever does bloom be sure to let me know--I will buy myself some next year then.

and BTW---so very happy to see you back here---you were very much missed !! kissie

My water hyacinth bloomed. A purply color. But had trouble keeping them in the pond because the raccoons loved to eat them.
