I put this in the main forum here yesterday, but only 1 person responded, and that was not what this plant is. So I am trying again here.

Pulled this up along the roadside, and am hoping I can get it to grow in my garden. There were lots of clumps - even growing in some people's front lawns. The flowers are small - about the size of a quarter to a half dollar at most, when open. They close up at night.

(the rounded leaves do not belong to this plant - the leaves are straight and grass-like.)

star of bethlehem - flowers early spring; grows from bulbs; can be invasive in some areas.

Thanks so much, Joclyn and Bill! At first I didn't think that was correct, as mine do not have a large flower stalk like the one Bill has pictured, with many buds on it - this one has one bud on each stem.

But I did an image search and found there are different varieties. Good to put a name to this beauty.

Also good to see you, Joclyn!

Click Rain Lily for a Google description. They grew all around my neighborhood when I was a kid. Haven't seen any in ages though.

they are highly poisonous.

Every plant started out as a seed ,and then came the waiting game.
