I lived about 65 miles east of Cincinnati,Ohio and would like to see if I can attract orioles to my yard? Does anyone know when they come and when they live here? Hope someone can help me out here? Thank you

Orioles love fruit. A neighbor who is an ornithologist, used to put halves of oranges stuck out onto branches to attract them to his yard.

I found this online:

Quote
The Baltimore Oriole birds diet consist of insects, fruits, and flower nectar. You can attract this bird to your backyard by setting out orange halves or grape jelly on a Fruit Feeder in early spring, or by using a sugar water mixture. 1 part sugar to 4 parts water. Boil sugar water mixture and let cool.

The prefered habitat of Orioles is in open woodlands of deciduous trees near parks, gardens, and in suburban settings.

I have only seen a couple of orioles twice, in the 17 years we've been in this house, and those were fleeting moments, but they were beautiful.

This link has a map that shows when they might appear in your area. baltimore orioles

Good luck trying to attract them! thumbup

I tried to attract them last year with oranges. If they stopped by I was inside or at work. I'm going to try again.

Did you see waht I did the last few y ears??

I first tried oriole feeders & regular orange oriole nectar--didnt work so well

so then I took the flowers out of 2 of my 4 spots on my hummingbird feeder, put regular home made humming bird sugar water in and they loved it--I had plenty of the orioles come then. I found if I left all 4 ports fully open I got too many bugs in the nectar (which is what was wrong with using my my Oriole feeder)---

I guess this year I will put out an orange as well... why
