Hello all, a freak accident happened and now my aloe plant has 4 leaves broken off mostly on one side, they still have a part of the leaf left...the break did not occur right at the stalk. Most of the leaves that broke off are not the bottom leaves.

I was wondering if my plant is worth salvaging at this point..and if i should trim back the remaining leaves to the stalk. Any advice would be awesome!!

below is a flickr site where you can view the pictures of my broken aloe. thanks for any help!!!

Welcome to the forum, saraht... wavy

Your plant will be fine.
I break parts off my aloe all the time to use for when I get burned (I have a lot of kitchen accidents!).

There are others on the forum that can tell you what you should do.
I'm sure they will drop in your post here soon.

I just wing it and my plants seem to grow...never know if I am doing the "right thing" or not. blush

I would leave them alone and see what happens. My aloes are outdoors and get beat up constantly. I don't do any beautifying at all and they seem to survive and recover to do well. I have looked at your pictures and I think your plant will do well too.

Your plant looks so nice and healthy! It's always sad when one of our nicer plants has an accident, but I think that yours will keep on growing as nicely as it looks in your pictures. I would just leave it alone.

Aloes are a type of succulent and do lose some of the firmness in the leaves when they get too dry. I've seen similar areas on the leaves of my aloes that were thinner like yours is showing. It doesn't hinder the growth or health of mine at all. Give it some water and let it stay near the window. It's growing straight up and has signs of new life, I think its just fine.

I agree with Shani, although I would cut some of the broken steams back to the stalk, It's really looking good in spite of the freak accident, tell your boyfriend to hush up LOL......
