My birdies are getting a good treat with this batch...
...because someone killed a pig and gave me a boat load of pig fat. I cubed it into 1" chunks and fried it slowly, just until it was transparent not crispy...smooshed it up with my hands after it was cooled...mixed it into the batch... YUM!

Yep...lucky birds!

Look at these big chunks of fat...

I don't have the empty suet cake containers...so I make it in a 13x9 inch pan...

I need to buy some suet cakes just for the plastic containers...it's really hard cutting that into squares.

Reciprocating saw?
Really, can you cut it when it is only half set? So you can either break it or cut it again when completely set? That is how I do things like candy I have cooked and then poured into a pan.

I do not always think in the most direct lines (left-handed). So I am always looking for hints on making life easier and shortcuts to anything. I get struck by epiphanies all of the time. Usually when I see someone else doing something.
Epiphany definition: idea a comprehension or perception of reality by means of a sudden intuitive realization

I'm sure if I ever had an idea Epiphany it would be against the law in some states.

Yes, setting off explosives is illegal in most states for most of us.

I'm not making suet cakes because it's easier to buy them but I enjoy reading old posts from people we haven't seen for a while.

The crackles (don't like those birds) came the other day and ate everything in sight.

They were brought in from Europe and I think they became invasive species, grackles and starlings,, not sure what one , have to do more research the ones with the speckles I think,, speckled starlings,, not positive on the grackles,, I think the cornell bird university study is where I got that information;
They do the backyard bird series which is fun and also helps them with their research on native and endangered birds. They send posters, flyers, a chart and some seeds to grow for your birds , a pack of native sunflowers,, For all of you who love birds as I do.. Just passing along this interesting tidbit of information to you. Blessings, Beth :)
