We had a trivia contest at work that came up with some interesting facts that are fun to discuss over Christmas Dinner. I thought I'd share a few or them. I'd post the actual quiz but I won't be back on probably for a weekish.
-Christmas Cards were first sent in 1843
-The first mass produced christmas Decoration was Tinsel in the 1600's
-In 1657 England Banned Christmas for a few year (Blame Cromwell I'm told)
-Santas Reindeer were named in 1823 in the poem Twas the night before Christmas.
-Rudolph joined the gang in the 1930's as a promotional story for a department store.
-Shakespeare's play As you Will (also called Twelfth night) is in itself a celecration of Christmastide and was first preformed in 1602 on the Twelfth night of Christmas (January 5th)
-Saint Nicholas is from Turkey and lived back in the 300's
-Holly was thought to ward away evil spirits.
-Mistletoe, translates to Dung on a Stick
Have a Merry Christmas
May the wind always be at your back and your keel in the water
