I would like to join facebook but not sure on how it works or really how to do it? I know you have to register with the site but then what can I expect? What things do I have to do besides regiser or is it a site that will tell you each step as you go? Just want to be sure I am not getting into something that I do not want to get into if you follow me? Thanks

I just finally joined fb a few months ago. It was pretty simple to register. I also checked out my settings right away and have them set very private so not just anyone can browse my pages. Only my friends that I added.
What ever email address that you use fb will ask you if you want to add all of those listed as 'friends'. (I chose not) Then as you do add friends they will continue to ask if you want to add more that have common friends. It really isn't difficult. And if you decide you do not like it, you can delete your account.
I still have my account but I only check in every couple of months to see what my friends and family are up to. I am not into all of the games and things available.

I will also say that when offered the opportunity, I opt out of the different games and such things that I an not interested in. I think that is blocking them? So if someone is very into Farmville or any of those, they are not wasting their time sending me cows and such.

Rita ~ Also, when you click on "home", you recieve a News Feed of what your friends have been posting in the last 24 hours. Click on "Profile" to take you to your personal page.

Like Tam, I have family/friends at quite a distance & it is an easy way to keep in touch. I do not play farmville or frontiersville or anything like that, but I do enjoy taking the fun quizzes such as "Which Christmas Song are you?" or "What Movie is the story of your life?" My friends & I like to compare results for those silly things.

Fb also offers you the ability to send private messages to others OR post a general message to all your friends. It also has a chat feature.

I joined Facebook 2 months ago to sign up for my class reunion. I've talked to people who friended me that I haven't talked too in years. It's fun. I don't do any of the applications though because the ones I've clicked on say I'm giving them the right to use and distribute my information without asking me even if I'm not online at that moment or something like that. I might have posted on here that I have received 2 friend requests that used names that I thought I knew. When I clicked on them they were photos of nude women and when I re-read the names I realized they were similar to names that I know. Like instead of Tara Jackson it would say Tar Jackson. The pictures weren't horrible. Each just had a picture of a nude woman and gave a web address. I've looked it up online and it's called a "flirt" message. I'm very careful what I open now.

I have been on FB for quite awhile now--dont remeber how long.

I have my privacy setting set niot as hig as I might b e high. I too refuse all applications---well I think there is one I let thru--but if I click on it & it say what Sheri explained I don't allow it.

I like it because I can keep track withteh kids easier--they can post waht is going on with them, I can saee it and they do not feel like they have been "checking in" with mom.

We are all happy that way.

All told you just have to learn to be careful with what you allow--and of course what you post

Sheri--thanks for that piece of information---it could be very helpful. kissie

Same here...I don't use any applications for that reason...and I don't play any of the games. I have over 100 game requests rrom friends ("So-and-So sent you a pig and would like a gift in return")...well, I have no idea what I would do with a pig on Facebook. touched lol

haha yep I feel the same way.--luckliy most of my "friends" know that now..

(I think one time I posted on my wall that I did not play any of the "games" & that I was not interested in them & that I would not respond to requests--
(said it in what I hope was a nice way though)

I get the being careful on what you post(with family)..man oh man, I started a few feuds by not stating my words correctly. But then it's Facebook..you just delete those who are offended lol

Facebook has gotten me in touch with people I had forgotten I even knew. My grandmother signed up on facebook after she had a reunion of sorts with formerly distant family members. Thanks to facebook I've "met" new family members that live on the other side of the continent from me. I used to okay the games but I got tired of them. I keep everything set to private. I've never had a request that was nude pictures. I rarely get any requests, I believe, because everything is set so private that unless you search for me specifically or we have a mutual friend then my account doesn't show up on general searches. I'm on facebook a lot though. I have social anxiety and facebook gives me a social outlet that I don't otherwise have.

One thing I'm not sure everyone know about: when your put pictures up on facebook, they become 'property of facebook' so they're allowed to distribute your pictures. If/when you delete your account, make sure you go through and delete each photo and each photo album or else they'll still be floating around even though your account is 'deleted.'

Yes, this is why there is only one photo of mine on my FB account. I had read this before. Thanks, Kenny!

How do you find your family and friends on facebook? If I am in my profile page is there place to find your family and friends at? Do you make a list of their e mail address and send them a invite or what? Thank you

You can do it either of several ways (that didn't make sense)...with email addresses or type their name in the search box. A lot of people let the "Friends Finder" do it for you...it gets all your email addresses and hooks you up, but I didn't want to give any permission for a website or whatever to get into my email...scares me. I do it the old fashioned way...just search. I only have about 50 friends...most people have hundreds or even thousands of friends...that's way too many for me.

Dodge...when I met my friends that day all 3 of them said..."Color your hair, girl...get rid of that grey!"
...they were all blond...from a bottle...
I said...
#1 - I have never colored my hair because I'm a big chicken...

#2 - I earned every grey hair on my head and I'm proud of them!

I liked my haior blond---but since like 1972 its been back to it's brown color--but god news is I have a wig now that I wear out a lot---it is some kind of Pecan---sorta like my hair used to be before the wreck of 72---a grey kinda dishwater blond.

I don't have much gray but I'm working on developing a streak on the right side of my head. Must be from all that deep left (intelligence) side thinking right? I didn't like it when I first started to find grays but I now have an appreciation for them and wear them proudly.
