I just received some spores for these and planted some of them. I'm keeping the rest in reserve in case the first group don't turn out well. I'm excited by the venture into spores. Wish me luck. And if you have any advice I'd love to hear it.

Could be because you are supposed to use buttermilk... not sour milk! lol

The instructions I found said to sterilize the soil so the spores wouldn't have an competition from fungus.

teach I found this in an old Park Seed catalog...
Quote
Dust the spores on the surface of milled horticultural sphagnum moss.
Water medium with sterile water and cover with a pane of glass.
Maintain a temperature of 65* and keep from direct sunlight until germination takes place.
Have patience, for germination is slow and varied.
When plants are large enough to handle, transplant to 2 1/2" pots using metro mix 300.
Shift to larger pots as the plants become root bound

I hope that helps....

Thank you so much Wild Willy. This is my first time hearing about milled horticultural Sphagnum moss. I'll talk to the landscape supply guy in town and see if he can get any.
