Can you write a limerick? Isn't this something we all wrote as a child? Most limericks are humorous but they don't have to be.

Here is mine:

My sis brought me here to this forum
Her grandsons, I really adore ‘em
They live far away
I’ll visit some day
I’ll try very hard not to bore ‘em

Now you write one.

I keep coming back to this topic...but then that stoopid limerick "There was an old hermit named Dave..." gets inside my head.

I'm trying...shouldn't be too hard after a few more glasses of wine.

Well...all I got up to last night which could be posted on the forum (G-rated) was...

"There was an old hermit named Bill,
who took afgreyparrot to his Hill..."

I can't post the rest... blush

Here's my first attempt.
I'll see if I can do better with a bit more time.

There was a site on the internet,
Where lots of gardeners once met.
Information was shared,
By people who cared.
Join the fun and you'll be all set.

Although all these mention gardening, don't think they all have to.

I have no green thumb as you know
I’ll never get something to grow
plants come from the store
When they die I get more
Good money after bad I throw

There's a doc in rehab today
who simply would not go away
drug mom he did try,
but he did not get by,
and now he's afraid for his pay.

We all know that girl from Nantucket.
She's moving and wanted to truck it
She rented a van,
But needed a man,
So she hired quarterback Jim Plunket

I obviously can't write one without my mind going seriously in the gutter.

I love reading these.
I want to play this rhyme game, too! boohoo

Gonna have a glass of Beam and try to think sweet thoughts that rhyme.

Back to rehab today I go,
the days there always go so slow,
I take my new laptop,
so the day's not a total flop,
you know?

Its good to plan a day,
Where all you do is play.
Outside or in
You'll always win
So play a game your way

There once was gal named JunieGirl
Who wants to give limericks a whirl
She claims she cannot
No rhyming she’s got
No matter, she’s still a pearl

I have a cute doggy named Emmy
given to me by our Jimmy
Friends make her sweaters
she wears in cold weather
but doesn't mind if she doesn't wear any.

At home I will have to stay
Won't get to see mom at rehab

'Til tomorrow we can play

I once received plants from a friend
And back to her I did send
Things I had knit
And plants that would fit
It's sad that's come to an end.

Wild Willy is a garden gnome,
He gives burls and rocks a home.
I've run out of time
and run out of rhyme
So this is the end of my poem.

There’s really blue grass in Kentucky
Those living here feel very lucky
We see horses play
And frolic all day
And everything feels pretty ducky.

Do I dare be too technical? Limericks are writen with lines 1,2,and 5 having 7-8 syllables and lines 3 and 4 have 5-6 syllables. docs lol

but if your story can't be written like that, go ahead and write the limerick anyway thumbup

Ok it took me a few hours (off and on but I think I got it. I didn't know before jayhawks post thatthere was a syllable count to limericks I just thout it had to rhyme like aabba. So heres my new one.

The first and second line must rhyme,
The third and forth rhyme will chime,
The Fifth must match the first,
Syllables are the worst.
Seven to eight, then five to six in time.

Ok so I'm one syllable over in the last line.
Any suggestions to make it better.

Good job Shani! thumbup

I didn't know there was a syllable count either until my daughter-in-law told me about it. lol We looked it up and there sure is! shock
on this forum: writing a limerick has only one rule, as far as I'm concerned, and that's the rhyming rule.
Life is full of enough rules so only the one rule here. clap
Count syllables only if you want. shots

What can a limberick be
One only needs to write to see
Silly lines that are terse
Or rhyming a verse
you'll be sure to slap your knee.

Christmas Season woes,
Arise when it snows.
All we can do is wait
and hope that it dissapates
With the light Shows.

In Pennsylvania the snow is so white
When the sun hits it there's a blinding light
But the sun is so warm
It will do dodge no harm
If she wears her sunglasses to protect her sight

My stupid old printer stopped working.
A big bad gremlin is lurking
I need a good gnome
To scare it back home
So the printer will quit its shirking.
