Dodge, I have always wanted a kitchen aid. I'm sure it would be a master piece in any home. So glad you get good use of yours!

is it a Stationay or a hand mixer, barb??
I need a hand mixer, as I have a nice GE stationary mixer already. But as counter space is at a premium I need a hand mixer to use in my everyday projects.
I had originally wanted A Kitchen Aid but the reviews on the 5 speed were not good & the 7 & 9 speed are hard to find not to mention costly.
I have a question of you.--I have heard complaints about the round beaters versus the flat beaters of other mixers---what is your opinion on them???

My DD's say that the girl they used to baby sit has a hard time getting volumn in her recipes like say egge white with the kitchen aide hand mixer. But then perhaps she has the smallest one..

Carol many things can decrease the volume of egg whites. The very last thing I'd ever think of would be the mixer. I can get egg whites up with a hand held wire whisk & just beating 'em to bits! lol

Tonight we had ribs in the crock pot, mashed potatoes and turnips.

Well Carol..do like I did...demand, demand, demand haha

"If you don't buy me a new mixer than I'm not baking anymore", DH say's, "well we better get one the next trip to WalMart"...

It's just a $50 'Procter Silex Burst' but so far the best mixer I have ever owned...and it comes off it's stand with a push of a button and came with the special 'whisk' for beating egg whites.

Today will be some kind of glazed chicken.

Come on over, Carol Jean! lol

By the way, have you ever made taco salad w/ catalina dressing rather than taco seasoning? It is really good!

You do not even use taco seasoning in your taco salad Carol? When you brown the meat? As though you are making tacos?

nope--see when I was a kid growing up my dad did nopt care for the taco seasoning, so when MOm made tacos she would jsut do the mat up like I do now--& so that is how I got used to it & how I prefer it.

DH's mom did not even try to serve such meals at home. MY FIL like fried meat & plain potaotes. I do not thing even hamburgers were allowed too often.

so he was jsut happy to have the taco like I fixed it---that & Italian foods MIL never fixed them either.

Um Carol that one family may prefer plain cooking, but that isn't the German way. I'm German and I can gaurantee you there is nothing plain about snitzel, strudel, goetta, bratwurst and other such traditional German foods.

To each his own, though. If your DH wasn't taught as a child to eat a wide variety (textures & flavors) of foods, I can see why it might be tough to coax him now. Though just plain curiosity can go a long way at meal time!

But might I ask if you don't use taco seasoning, why do you call it "taco salad"?

well because minus teh seasoning it that i s waht it is.

I learned to do it this way when the kids were in school. They were served it this way at school.

you lay down corn chips. then layer on, in your preferred order, the cooked meat, (I also cook in onions) shredded lettuces, shredded cheeses, tomatoes & what ever else I have on hand. like perhaps chopped avacodos, & sour cream & any other veggie that I have on hand.
and BTW: DH's mom & grandmother cooked very plainly. They rarely even have gravy for mashed potaotes. If it was a casserol my FIL did not like it--to this day I think he thought it was less work for my MIL so that was out of the question--- rolz
