I would say apples for one. Apples are low in calories and fat, low in sodium and contain vitamins, minerals as well as fiber. These can all help to lose weight in different ways. The low calories means we can eat lots of apples without consuming too much energy. The fiber helps by filling the stomach quicker, again limiting the amount of food eaten. Lower sodium intakes helps flush excess water weight from the body. And, the vitamins benefit us by increasing health and vitality to keep us active throughout the day. Increased vitality helps burn extra calories to speed up weight loss. Another positive benefit of eating apples is the high water content of the fruit.

My first thought was apples, too. Besides all the benefits sheri mentioned, I believe I once heard that we burn as many calories eating an apple as the apple contains. And the apple can help satisfy a sweet tooth.
Another thing is grapefruit. Very high fiber. low calories. If you don't like grapefruit, basically any fruit is good, even relatively high calory fruit, especially fruit with high fiber. Fruit rarely contains much fat, and the sweetness is not really from extremely high calories. Bananas, for instance, have very high fiber, but they do have a lot of calories. Mangoes have moderately high calories but very high fiber. Pears probably have roughly the calories of apples, fairly low, with lots of fiber. The more fruit you eat, the more you fill up without eating high fat food. Avoid juice, much of the fiber is removed and the calories are concentrated. V8 is good for you, very good, but has fairly high sodium, if you need to avoid sodium.

I really like V8 juice and now they have it with 2 servings of vegetables per 8 ounces. I think the low sodium tastes just as good as a regular. I heard on NPR years ago that bananas aren't good if you're trying to loose weight. I can't rememeber why though because I think they are very filling. I've also heard not to eat watermellon if you're trying to loose weight.

about the bananas
They are filling, and have a lot os nutrients. But they are high in calories.
of course there may be other reasons.
about the watermelon. They are primarily water, so if you are one to retain water, I guess it is best to avoid them. But it is low in calories.
