I have been watching a pair of red bellied woodpeckers make a nest in my tree for 2 weeks now. Yesterday, I caught the starlings fighting with them and the woodys left. I also saw the starlings coming out of the hole!!!I was so afraid they killed the eggs... nervous So, I had the hubby shoot his BB gun a few times to make them go away. I know. So now today "their back" tapfoot
What can I do??? prayers any help is appreciated

Many of us birders are bird hunters in season. I don't hunt anymore but am not against it at all. Starlings, Pigeons, and House Sparrows are EXOTICS (non-native species) and are not protected by law, and therefore can be eliminated by ANY means necessary all year. So a high powered BB/Pellet gun may be your best bet to eliminate the Starlings. Being a bird behavior researcher and photographer, I just sit and watch what happens, and photograph the behaviors.

Crows are a Native species so ARE PROTECTED, but some states DO have a hunting season for Crows.

But new studies show that Crows do have a language as rich as ANY human language that we are just now beginning to understand. Crows also use tools, and care for and protect helpless members of their own and other species. So it appears that crows may be EQUAL to HUMANS in intelligence.

Found this for my province....

Resident hunters who wish to hunt for groundhog, coyote, crow and cormorant may purchase a 'New Brunswick Varmint Hunting License'. This license is valid annually from March 1st until September 20th.

Fees: $9

On Tuesday I'm going to buy a license...good bye coyotes. notme

Im guessing the woodpeckers are sitting now. There is one there all the time. The starlings are around also but hubby did eliminate 3 for me. I hear her call out in the evening about dark. SO COOL!
