Hey!

I am having a problem with my sage. Last week I bought some small sage plants from Home Depot and planted them into a 2 feet by 8 inch planter which is about 10 inches deep with soil. I used black cow manure mixed with soil and some of my own compost. I mulched about 1 inch deep. The plants get sun from about 1 PM-6:30PM and during this time the soil stays moist and cool.

The little plants seem to be doing great until an hour or two of sun at which point they start to sag. I water them and they stop drooping, but they don't recover until after the sun is gone. It is very frustrating because I thought sage preferred full sun and I don't know what I did wrong.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you :)

It sounds to me like you did everything correctly and your plants are just a little shocked from the transplanting. Keep up the cycle and I think when those sage of yours gain a little confidence and send out a couple of new roots, they will begin to do what you want them to.
Do you know what kind of sage (salvia) you have? That can make a difference sometimes too. A lot of the salvias prefer poor soils and fast draining.

...and was your manure aged?..if not you might have burned the root system in the plants.

It is common sage. I bought the manure from home depot in a bag, so I can only hope it was aged. Thank you so much for your advice. I guess I am just anxious for the little guys to do well because I have killed so many. I will be patient and wait :)

Cheers,
Debbie

Yes,most bagged from Home Depot is well aged.
Good on you for your growing patience. That is the thing most gardeners learn to 'grow' best.
