Keep an Eye on the map,, this site shows sightings as they happen! IF you sight a humming bird or any other bird you can record it here and within 5 minutes it will show the sighting's location
I tired to find it and couldn't. Do you mind forwarding me the link to it? I'd like to see if I could add it to my emails....do you think that will work? I found others but not as cute as that one.
Nice information! It is really helpful for all who need it. I like this kind of info because i like to give some new for all and also my friends.thanks for this.
OK, I have to ask everyone....is it just me or is there just not as many hummers this year? I saw my first one in early April and by now I usually see them everyday multiple times a day....and that just isn't happening at all....it really makes me sad. My friends in Carlsbad, CA said they havent' seen that many either. Any thoughts?
well, I have not been seeing as many either-- BUT I have a notion that someone in the area here has a grand feeding area for birds--because suddenly I am seeing less orioles too. so my not seeing birds might not be of any use to you???

Nice pic..we haven't seen any in a week here but they usually disappear for a bit to 'nest'.
yes I had thought of tjhat, tamara but usually they bombard my feeders the week b efore & then they dissapear for awhile--not so this year--but I guess the "other better equiped' feecders may be to blame.

I didn't post anything on the map, but my recollection is I saw the first one here in April. It buzzed my flowering citrus. They are everywhere now. When I fill the feeder, it's empty within a day. Hard to keep up.
"No crime is involved in plagiarizing nature's ways" (Edward H. Faulkner, 1943, "Plowman's Folly," University of Oklahoma Press).
For the last 2-3 days I cannot keep humminbird nectar in the feeders. and I constantly have like 5-8 H-Birds at each iof my feeders, fighting for the food. Now this happens every year about the last week before the hummers leave for the season. It frightens me that it is happpning now---it is nowhere near the middle of October after all.
What do ya all think is the deal ????

Lynne--thanks and yes I am going to continue to put out food, not to worry.
and as a side not, but it does tie in, this evening we heard locust while we were outisde. I usually think of them as coming in the fall saometime. Am I just confused???

Carol - we've been hearing cicadas for a few weeks now - it's a sound I really cannot stand!!! They are extremely loud now, as I type here!
Then we are going to have an early fall do you think? We do not usually hear them until late September here.

I saw that Lynne said hers move on the end of September there. Mine usually move on around the 15th of October with a feeding frenzy like I am seeing now going on the week before they leave.. hence my wonderment....

Carol - not to argue really - but we typically hear the cicadas all throught August here, so they are pretty much on time if not a tiny bit early here.
I haven't seen a SINGLE Hummer this season. We are OVERRUN with Cicadas as is typical for this time o' year. The temperature hit 103 degrees here today. I have been sick and throwing up this evening, due to the excessive heat. I am a WINTER person.

My first Hummer for 2010 showed up today. I did a thorough cleansing and FRESH nectar filling of ALL my Hummer feeders, yesterday and today, the hummers arrived. Since My wife passed this week I have more time and money to devote on the birds, so I got 40 pounds of BOSS, 3 new suet Cakes, a NEW tube Feeder and Hummer feeder supplies. The work is ALREADY paying off. Birds are arriving by the SCORE!!!

Good for you THorny. You deserve some good things happening your way.
I didnt fill my feeders for a day or so--so now in 1 day the one feeder is just about full yet, but even though I have not seen hordes of hummers today the 1 feeder is still almost empty.
again I am thinking we here in IL are going to have an early fall/winter... Gee, I hope I am thinking wrong.

SNowing WHERE, Dodge? It's almost 110 degrees here. When we buried my wife Thursday I stood on the spot next to her where I will be buried just to try to get the so-called "chill" when someone walks across your grave.

Hey I actually get peaceful when I go to the family grave sites an stand. I have 6 of my family just a mile from me an see it often. No chills there for me. Comfort.
My grave is VERY sunny, about 50 feet from a GIGANTIC American Flag. It's on top of a hill so my wife and I won't have to worry about floods. There's LOTS of deer and coyotes there I am told.
Right now I am processing Hummer pictures. It's BUBBA HUM!....the male Hummer that was born in my yard two years ago. He's back for the second year in a row. Right now he looks a little rough and scraggy, but I think that's due to the Summer molt and the unbearable heat.

The employees pick the spot. I am not that much of a patriot. The flag is just an emblem of our country and doesn't hold much emotional content for me.

I checked the photos, It's Bubba's sister, Fra Hummer. She was born the same time he was. This is HER second year, too. Their mother is Hummercane Camille. I haven't seen her,...YET!
