Carol. I'm having a hard time keeping up with one screen open~multi-tasking with a computer is way beyond me at the moment. It seems I can't remember most of what I knew.

Oh well in a week I'll be back in touch with it all.

There seems to be alot of older members missing in action...I hope all is well with everyone.

We are just in a rush pushing through to Winter Break which begins next weekend, Tam.

Getting my kid happily through 8th grade is a challenge as he hates his current school and can't wait to get to the other one.


Fortunately, he hsa stuff to look forward to, meantime.

well Valarie has a candle party so I have to go to it. otherwise nope. Rod will wait until sunday when Igive him his card & candy then he will say, "well, I didnt get you anything".

ya know I do not mind him not getting me anything, but I mind him telling me he didn't like I would be surprised at that !!

You know Carol, we never did much for Valentines before but ever since DH got his job where he is now...it seems to be a big thing. A few of the men would get the 'doghouse' if they brought home nothing, so DH tags along on the flower run..

Merme, I read a bit about his scholarship but never caught up on the whole new school yet.

We tend to make a big deal out of all the holidays. It would be odd to let one go by without rejoicing in it.


My favorite is in October -- "Sweetest Day" when you give flowers to the sweetest person you know whether or not they are family.

I USED to get something on Secretary's day.--but now it is taken for granted.

I plan to go visit my grandparent this week.

Never heard of "Sweetest day" before, when is it Merme?. Wish I was close...I'd share my flowers with you Carol. Mind you if I was close, I'd make Rod pay for them also

When I was a kid I went home after school with a girlfriend. That was rarely allowed. It was Valentine's Day and her mom had left her a list of chores to do after school. One chore was to make a meatloaf and put it in the oven.

I talked her into making the meatloaf in a heart shape and putting the tomato sauce on top. She was scared to death but did it anyway.

We must have been 12 years old and we both remember that day!


I always think you get out of holidays what you put into them, so I like going all out even on the small ones. It cheers everyone up! And, when winter is long and times are hard, it is good to cheer folks up!

I always buy DH a box of chocolates for Valentines day, he'd do the same but I love the flowers alot more.

I don't get chocolates now though~traded up for flowers.

I'm sure your grandparents will appreciate the visit, Tam.

Sweetest Day is always the third Sunday in October, Tam.

I'll add pics this week to show...my grandparents celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary last month.

Well I need proof so I can get more flowers also. gonna google that up.

Secretary's day is in September as I recall. perhaps the 14th???

ok the internet says it is in April--the 21st in both Canada & the U.S.

Guess it's not really celebrated here.

Hey..I just searched and it states that 'Sweetest Day' is usually only celebrated in the North-Eastern United States.

well I have heard of it around here too, although it is not in my pocket calendar.

Bet it's another Hallmark-made holiday

just dropping in to say hello. I was reading back just a bit where you up north were talking about all the snow. it's VERY pretty here today. cold in the 40's but the sun is shinning. we havent had sunshine here but about twice in the last three weeks. it's a soggy mess.

Sweetest Day was invented in 1922 by a philanthropist to let the poor and underprivileged know he cared about them. Theda Bara the actress, picked up on it and delivered candy to a large hospital. That's how it got started.
