the second one should give you lots of small pink aster-like flowers in spring...i pampered some last year (wasn't sure if they were weeds then) and got flowers this year
Helping the world one seed at a time When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. Mary Ann LaPensee

Dodge, I think the second one is Oenothera biennis. This is a biennial so you should get a tall, yellow bloom next year.

Well, if you block them off with some stones, they won't be able to spread into anything else, so I don't see the harm in growing them. I've seen both those ' weeds' and they are nice looking plants. Know what? weeds . . . weeds are plants that are growing where you don't want them to grow. That's what gardening's all about - a science in itself.

Look carefully at what you pluck as weeds . . . sometimes they turn out to be plants that have 'self-propigated', by way of wind, birds, the little paws of squirrels (the little buggers!), or maybe your own cat has been picking them up on his/her feet and bringing the seeds home. It's good to get a good 'wildflower' guide, or something online to i. d. your weeds before you throw them out. Even dandelions, as everyone knows, have SOME use - salads, wine, etc. There's the ugly thorny ones - the obvious weeds - those you can't miss. A lot of the plants I have going on our lot (apartment building) were cultivated from 'weeding'. They laughed at me when they saw some of the things I was plucking, then transferring to spots of their own - but they quit laughing when they saw the nice plants that came of them.
