I'm so thrilled for you, Diane! I know the feeling well now, thanks to you!

My Charles is getting his second round of buds now that the others have finished blooming. They are still tiny, so it will be a while as you said, but it's still very exciting!

Thanks,, I believe it's the biggest bloom ever I've gotten from the unnamed pink
I have another brug Njoynit sent me two years ago,, I rooted it and planted it but it only grew about 10 inches then appeared to die, last year nothing came up, BUT this year, it came up and is about 3 ft high and has buds on it,, I think it may be the Jean Pasco but I can't be sure,, I had so many starts that particular year,, I'm not sure which one it may be?? I just have to wait until it blooms and see.

Looks like all of our brugs are blooming at the same time. My Charles Grimaldi is having a second flush of blooms and I am thrilled!!! Here are some pictures I took this evening just as it was turning dark.

See all the buds yet to open? And it smells heavenly out there once again!
[Linked Image]

This one opened this morning and is a bit darker than the others that just opened tonight.

Dodge - I cannot overwinter them outdoors here either - zone 6. Last year I dug up the trunk of Charles Grimaldi, and I also took several branch cuttings. None of his cuttings made it, but the main plant grew enormous leaves inside. It was looking so terrific when sometime around February it got a horrendous case of spider mites!!! I sprayed it with rubbing alcohol and that caused all the leaves to fall off. I was afraid he was done for, but when I took him outside as soon as I could - early May, just to get the spider mites out of the house, he started putting out new leaves. And now you see the result of that!

I will most likely dig up and pot up the main trunk once again, as well as take cuttings again. I had more Adora cuttings but they were hit by a frost, and amazingly those cuttings fared better inside. I was able to transplant about 5 of those, but only 1 is blooming so far.

I, also would prefer to be able to leave them outside, as I have to bring more and more plants indoors to overwinter. This year I will need room to overwinter some pond plants as well!

pnp,

That is how I did mine.. Adora I started from seeds. It was indoors and leaves about 18 inches long. White fly hit it .Oh yuk

So this year it was in the basement all winter cut back and it is the only one in bloom.
Cuttings a friend sent me most died and some are only about 18 iches tall. Was all in basement in soil.
How did you do the cuttings? They say in the why..??????
How did you root them?

Some grew others didnt.

Do you have seeds from Charles? To spare?
Pm me.

I would love some rooted.......I think my problem is , they cut about Octo or nove. And my climate is already headed into winter and wont root for me.

One year I lost a fist full just putting in water.......Last year I put them directly into soil........Lost most of them again.

I will pay postage to you for them.........Thanks ..
Your so angelic.........

Thanks again for computer help last nite.........

I take cuttings every second week of September because any later, school works gets in the way :( I put them in a pot of soil and water real well. I don't water until I see new leaf buds breaking (yes the leaves will all fall off first). If they're smaller cuttings, I put them in water and then into soil as soon as I see little bumps but before roots start growing. For me, cuttings with 'bark' work better than cuttings that are all green.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. Mary Ann LaPensee

Your welcome Sweetie!,, Here's the thing,, when I send the rooted cutting you'll have to place in soil and keep in the house until spring,, and really watch them for spider mites and wipe the leaves off with rubbing alcohol at the first sign of spider mites. I will also send Priority mail so they won't have time to freeze!

Kenny I agree barked cuttings are far better But I've also gotten them to root with green cuttings and I always start in water and don't place in soil until I have at least 3 inches of root.

Brugs and daturas are night bloomers. Also tobacco (Nicotiana), four o clocks, and evening scented stocks. Some people have a little 'night scented garden' around their windows so they smell the flowers even at night :)
