Anyone know about Astilbe? I love them. They are in my shady garden. What I need to know is why some of them just die out after they bloom. This has happened before and they seem to keep coming back. Is it normal? Not all of them die out. It looks like they die from lack of water but that is not true.

Astilbe roots don't tolerate drought well. Water well. In hot dry summers, the plant may go dormant early, but will reappear after a moist cold period (winter). Water sparingly when it is dormant. You have to keep astilbe consistently moist and shaded from the mid day sun.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. Mary Ann LaPensee

That explains it. I didn't know they were so fussy. Thanks for the info.
