My next-door neighbor bought an Australian Bottle Brush bush many years ago and when I admired it a few years ago, she bought me one (I do favors for them). kissie Now another neighbor further down the road has admired mine but I can't afford to buy them one. I've tried to root it with no luck. There are no little shoots coming out from under it either. I've had success with rooting various plants in the past but this one has me whupped. why Help?

If it is a regular calistemon, they can be rooted. I have done it successfully using the branch ends with at least a couple of leaf nodes under damp potting mix. Rooting woody plants is only a little trickier than rooting herbacious ones. They mostly take a little longer and you can never, ever let the mix dry out.
I have never tried rooting anything in your climate. I can root and grow things year round with little difference from season to season.
If you have any low branches you can try ground layering one or two.
