My rugosa roses bloomed beautifully for the first time this year and I have many rose hips which are now a pretty orange color. Has anyone ever used these to make jelly or jam? I have seen recipes online but want to know if they will have good flavor before I go to the trouble of cooking them. I read that they need to ripen until nearly the first frost so I have a while yet, but I would appreciate info if anyone has experience with this. Thanks.

I tried it out one year--pretty pleasant stuff--and recommend you
buy some first before toiling over the range. A good deli should
have it.

My lingering impression was that of a pasty version of apple butter.
