I'm unhsppy to share with you all that Maxi's little yellow parakeet, Ties, passed away this afternoon.
She was not looking at all well when I came home from dialysis today, so I called Maxi to tell him I didn't think she was going to make it. She passed away while we were talking about it; her mate, Buttons, gave a huge screech and flapped around the cage, all upset.
Buttons is 10 years old, and Ties was 5 1/2 (that we know of).
Ties was a sweet little pet, coming to Maxi at a tough time in his life.
His original pair of parakeets were Buttons & Bows. When I was in the coma after the amputation, Bows passed away and Maxi was devestated. As soon as I came home, we got Ties.
Ties got her name because her tail feathers were the exact colors of Maxi's Easter tie that year.... rich blues and greens and a dab of yellow.
She always got on well with Buttons although she was terribly shy, and she's been a happy companion for us all.
We miss her already.
Rest in peace, Ties, and rise in glory.

We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart? The other heart was given to another for us to find.
I'm so sorry to read this, Merme. I'm sure you and Maxi have some wonderful memories of Ties, and he will remain dear to your hearts for a very long time.
Merme so sorry that Ties passed on I know all to well how hard it is to lose a pet bird. I lost my Wolfman in early May came home and he was dead in the bottom of his cage. I have no idea how old he was I had him for 7 years and got him from an old man that was sent to a rest home. My condolence to you and Maxi and Buttons as well.

Merme, my heart goes out to you and Maxi. I so know the pain and grief of losing a sweet little friend of the animal kingdom. They are just the best of love in this world. If only we all loved with the heart of an animal maybe this world would be a better one. So warm hugs and many prayers of comfort go out for you guys at this time.
My next house will have no kitchen - just vending machines and a large trash can.
I will read to Maxi all of your kind words and I know they will comfort him.

Merme I am sorry to say that I have just read of Ties passing. My heartfelt sympathies go out to Maxi and of course to you. May your memories of Ties help you both thru your sorrow.
And yes, please give Maxi a hug from me as well.

Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain!! .....
Buttons seems lonely. I paid alot of attention to him today and this afternoon when the sun came out for a bit, he sang for a short while.
It just makes me sad because as shy as Ties really was, she was a sweet little pretty bird who graced our lives.
I'm glad now Maxi always took his birds to church on St. Francis Day and got them blessed by the priest. I think the memories of those sunny autumn days on the church lawn with his beloved birds getting the blessing them carrying them inside to be presented at the altar will do much to comfort Maxi. He was a good (although young) owner who deeply cared for his pets.

Oh and I forgot to tell you that although Maxi couldn't be here for the burial, he will be glad to hear of it.
I wrapped Ties in a beautiful soft cloth and put her in a pretty decorative tin with flowers painted on the lid and the words "Easter, a promise kept". My friend Angel took her to a lovely wooded area with wildflowers and a nearby waterfall and promised Maxi she'd bury her "deep", because Maxi was worried about that! Someday, when Maxi is ready, Angel will walk him out to that spot and show him where.
