Ha ha, that's a good one! Is that what your foxes look like over there? It looks almost like a red panda!

Actually that's a Kit Fox. I'm not sure if those are in North America or not. I've never seen one. The only foxes I have seen in the Wild are Red Foxes, the kind featured in Disney's animation feature, "Robinhood". As a matter of fact, I had TWO Red Foxes for pets when I was a teenager.. One was mean and surly, the other was friendly but nervous. I also kept a Gray Fox for awhile, but it was REALLY mean, and even bit me once.

Ok, This fox is fairly common in the Southwest U.S. I am in the Southeast U.S. and we don't have those here, just the Red Fox, Gray Fox, and Coyote.

I think the fox we have here is the red fox. They originally came from England, due to some genius thinking it would be a good idea to have a spot of fox hunting along with the introduced rabbit hunting. Tally Ho, chaps! Oh, yes, and they also thought it would be a good idea to bring along some European carp, and some cats, and then someone thought "well, we've done so much damage already, it won't hurt if we just import a few harmless cane toads"!

I see a Red fox in the wild every 10 - 20 years or so. They are very shy and timid. The last one I saw was 15 years ago, a solid black Red Fox, (Yes there IS a solid black phase of Red Fox. They are fairly common, actually.) This fox ran across the road one evening near one of our state parks here in Nashville.

Yes, it is rare to see them, but apparently they are all around, even in the suburbs and the city here. I haven't seen any black ones; guess they would have an advantage, being harder to see at night.

We have Coyotes here, too. About half the size of a German Shepherd, light gray with a big BUSHY tail. Very dog-like in appearance. Often breeds with house dogs forming a hybrid Coy-dog.

I guess the nearest thing we have here is the dingo. If they inter-bred with a coyote you might end up with a coyongo or a dingote!

Thankfully not, but we were accosted by a dingo looking for a food handout as soon as we got out of the car, last time we visited Ayers Rock. Unfortunately, some people do feed them, and that creates problems.
