This bulb I brought from the basement today, m mooouch to my suprise had a new shoot ..

Can anyone tell me what the huge bulb is? No dirt in it , just bulb and roots, the way it was in the basement.

I think it's an amaryllis. The right side looks like a dried up amaryllis bulb. There aren't many bulbs that I know of that will bloom without water nor soil.

If grown in their normal climate they are a spring blooming bulb. People force them to bloom at Christmas. By putting them in the dark and not watering. I do not force mine and they bloom Feb-May. I like blooms in the middle of winter when I need them most.

I have one with a bud like your plant now.
