During the summer of 2006,a lady at a garage sale gave several of us a start of her string of pearls plant. She said she didn't do anything special to keep hers growing. She has it in a hanging pot in a very hot & sunny window and the plant covers the pot & nearly reaches the floor. Mine however, after a 16 months, is still very small. It had 13 pearls on it for the longest time & I finally added some seed starter mix to the cactus soil & started watering it with warm water. It's now sprouted 3 more pearls. It gets southeast light exposure and mostly morning sun. I let it dry out between waterings. Do I fertilize it? Does this plant really grow this slow? The older pearls are a very light green while the newer ones are dark green.
My plant is the only one still living.
I hope someone can help me keep this one alive!
Thanks much!

You might try some fertilizer thats a cactus and succulent formula. Sounds like you have it in a good spot. I read south or southeast exposure is good. I also read it is a moderately slow grower. I never had one. They are a cool looking plant.

You pics on photobucket are great! I especially enjoyed the hummers at the wrens nest.
Thanks again for your help!

Update on my string of pearls...it's still living!! It now has 24 pearls on it.
It's still getting light from the same window so I'm not moving it! I never fertilized it. I figured the seed starter soil had some nutrients in it.
And now I'm going to look up some info on a goldfish plant that I have.

It's hard to grow those,, I've never had luck, or maybe it was patience , lol .. they are slow growers,,,,
You must be very patient grin
Have you taken it outside in the spring? I bet it would grow a lot faster At least I would imagine it would,, why

Angelblossom, I haven't put it outside yet. I may try that once the weather warms up. But won't leave it out overnight. I'd like to fretilize it but just not sure what kind to use. Think I'll og search the web & see what I find.
Jiffymouse...sory to hear that. Maybe you should try again. 3rd time's the charm!
Enjoyit....maybe you could talk to your friend & share his expertise with us!
plants...I don't have a lot of luck with some things. Usually I can kill plants that everyone else finds easy to grow. The pears, fish hook plant, & jasmine seem to work for me.
Wrennie, I have it in a cacti mix. I water it with warm water when the top soil feels dry.

Thanks for reading everyone!

Last update on string of pearls. It was doing so well & like an idiot, i decided to move it closer to a window because someone said the light green color of the pearls, meant that it needed more sun. Well I moved it, & within a week the pearls began dying off. I moved it back to it's original location but to no avail. It died...all gone. I'm really kicking myself.
If I find another one, I will try again tho!
Thanks to everyone who helped & commented.
