That is beautiful, Alan. Tree peonies are about the only kind that might be able to grow here in certain conditions. I've been looking at them for years without taking the plunge. Lucky duck!

a tree peony is a bush and it is made my graphing.

regular peonies are a clump comming up from one common rhysome.

At least that is the best I've been able to figure out.

There are a few Tree Peonies that can be grown as far as zone 9, such as Coral Terrace, Zhao Pink, Necklace w/Precious Pearls, Number One Scholar's Red, Taoist Stove Filled with the Pills of Immortality, Rouge Red, Luoyang Red, Green Dragon Lying on a Chinese Ink Stone, Grand Duke Dressed in Blue and Purple, Phoenix White, and Twin Beauty.

Most of them need a cold period to form flowers.
