We had an inch of snow overnight and tonight they're calling for 4-6 inches more. By Saturday temps are to be 58.

Try using a flash, Terry. I use one even in full sun and it makes my pics even better! The Carolina Wren is GREAT! (But I am VERY partial to photographing wrens.)

Yes, I love the picture of the wren too, so puffed up it's like a ball.

I keep forgetting about the flash. I had tried yesterday, and it wasn't coming on with every shot. I need to read my manual to see how to set it properly.

Wrens do that, Stevie. Wrens and kinglets tend to be more egg-shaped than other birds and Wrens have very ODD behavior. That cocked tail is a NORMAL pose for a Wren.

Here are a couple of pictures I took of a Wren this week. I have a couple of pairs that live and nest in my yard each year.

More snow birds. It's a picture blitz. The birds were very photogenic today.

After I finished editing this one, I thought it looked more like a postcard than a photograph, but I liked it. Again, I didn't notice the Pine Siskin till I edited the pic. You can see some of my mom's pussy willows opening up at the bottom.

It's a Chickadee Face-off. The White-breasted Nuthatch is the referee.

Thanks Thorny!

Can you tell which kind of Chickadee I have by looking at them???

I was looking at the maps again, and while it seems I'm more in the Carolinas' range, the Black-caps' winter range extends down into my area in the higher elevations. I'm at 2800 feet just back a bit from the edge of the Blue Ridge Plateau.

Those are Carolina Chickadees. They have a grayish hue to the nape of the neck. Black-Capped have a mostly White nape.
