While I was in Mobile a few weeks ago I visisted the Mobile Carnival Museum.
I took several pictures of gowns, trains, and other costumes worn by the Queens, Kings, and pages in various years.

These first pictures are the only ones that I took of both the Queen and King of a few years ago. Each Queen and King selects what to put on the train so everything on the train has meaning to each individual. The trains often take over 9 months to make.

This Queen is a third generation Queen. She commemorated this by putting three crowns on her train. Both her mother and grandmother were Queens along with a grandfather who was a King.

This Queen loved flowers and gardens with water features so that is what she chose to put on her gown. The gown is actually a medium blue throughout and not the colors in the photo. The lighting for photos was not the best.

Another King with his initals on his train.

This is my favorite, maybe because it is simple but elegant.

The male children selected to help are called Pages. Their costumes are also elaborate.

In the picure of the white train there was no mannequin wearing the gown so the collar(not headdress) is on the stand next to the train.

Those were the only umbrellas there. That was a little disappointing.

Ohhhhh Okay the collar,,,,,, Boy that looks like it's heavy to be wearing it,,,, I wonder if their shoulders ache wearing something like that around their neck, shock

ALl of those are beautiful,,,,, I'd have to say the kings( first King Pic) and the Queen's White ones are my favorites!!!!

That elevator is hilarious,,,,,, "THROW ME SOMETHING" lol

I LOVE these pictures Glenda!!!
Thanks sooooooo much for sharing them with us here!

What elaborate work all those trains have, I especially like the multi-colored one for the queen who liked flowers and birds. And I like the elevator idea too - fun!

The elevator is a working one. It holds about 3 people. For some reason the guide took me up to the second floor in the elevator but down the stairs back to the first floor after the tour. why lol

We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart?
The other heart was given to another for us to find.

I had to leave before Mardi Gras really started so the only necklaces I have are the ones I bought. lol

The guide told me about one train that was so heavy the Queen had ball bearing sewn into the hem so it would move easier on the floor. I wish I had thought to ask how much a train would cost but I didn't.

There was one dress (I didn't get a picture) that was worn by a "Lady in Waiting". Her dress was designed by Vera Wang! shock
