Ohmygoodness! Maxi prepared one heck of an elaborate and yummy meal for us tonight!

He is allowed to cook anything that doesn't require him to lift a pot of boiling water. So, he brought home a recipe card for a 30 minute meal, and shopped for all the ingredients on his way here. Christine also made things easier for him by measuring out the spices he would need into baggies so he wouldn't have to guess what I do & do not have on hand.

So... he made huge Haddock fillets in the oven w/ a special topping of crushed Ritz crackers, garlic & lemon. He made oven baked potatoes. He made a Caesar salad w/ special features... bacon & croutons!

I only managed half my plate & I am stuffed!

He served it with diet Pomegrante 7 Up.

By golly, my kid can cook!

That sounds delicious, Merme. And you have leftovers for tomorrow too.
Jonni has been cooking lately. She hangs with some people who potluck most weekends and she has been contributing. Today she made German chocolate bars, loosely based on the cake of the same name.

I just had a happy meal. Only because Athena is collecting the toy right now, the hotel for dogs animals. They are just the right size though food wise so I'm good with that and she LOVES them---the dogs.

Heading over to get her for the night. wavy

Sounds like a nice meal Merme......and I would've taken a few of those bars Tina. grin

wavy Jiffy--you stranger you. lol

My sister was here today with her NEW boyfriend. grin I love it when one of the siblings brings a new one home to inspect and grill. lol

The recipe from Jonni's came from an Eagle Brand cookbook so uses sweetened condensed milk. Jonni's first time with a can of that stuff. She asked if she should use a can opener (church key type) and pour. I told her no to open the whole thing because she was gonna need a spoon. She couldn't believe that the lids wouldn't come off even after she had opened it. Had to pry it off. It is fun to teach new stuff to kids.

I love teaching things to children. They learn so quickly and have such fun discovering!

It's part of the wonder of childhood, I think.

Jiffy I would like some of those 7 layer bars if you are making any.

My best friend Angel stopped by today for the first time in a long time. Her furnace went down in all this mess up here and so her pipes froze, but fortunately they didn't break this time. They had the furnace man out AGAIN and for a mere $600 he got them up and running. Part of that charge was for afterhours service! Ay-yi-yi. They also have one of those electric "fireplaces" and so kept warm even when the furnace was down, but it wasn't enough to protect the pipes. They have an old home that needs much upgrading but her hubby doesn't like to spend money on the house. So they sort of go from one crisis to another, applying temporary fixes. It causes Angel to fret. And then I fret.

This isn't the time of year to have furnace problems!

Sorry I missed seeing you, Frannie!

Well my coffee is pressed and it is time for me to get out of my chair for a while. I am going to sit on the couch and crochet the star pillow. Maxi is sprawled on the floor drawing. We are planning to watch Independence Day which comes on in a few minutes.

I'll stop back in later.

Hi all,
I watched I Am Legend today with Will Smith- we have free HBO this weekend so Joe is recording all sorts of stuff on the DVR's... closest I get to going out to movies anymore... it is really good but sure didn't follow the book... still good though.
Carrie and Jon paid off one vehicle and the credit counseling this month so they now have extra money ...Yay! Jon had 3 paydays this month too so we went to Sam's and did a big shopping for her household staples and cleaning stuff to last for a while-- 2 carts of stuff and we filled the back of her Durango... but now she can just replace as she goes and keep up I hope... next payday we are doing the kids lunch stuff ...
I had to buy and new wireless mouse for my laptop... old one just wouldn't work anymore- this one works so I am a a happy camper with it- just can't use a touch pad- makes my hands hurt way more then the mouse and typing does...
Well gotta go and finish making Mom's bed- washed her linens and bedspread today and let it dry outside for a while- finishing it up in the dryer-- was actually almost 60 here today..... weird weather for us for sure.

that is so odd nana, typing and a regular mouse hurt my hands way more than the touch pad. which is why i usually read everything written, but post sparingly.

however, i'm glad you have the new mouse! thumbup

Well I've done all the crocheting I plan to do tonight. I finished the front of the star pillow & it is pretty nice. Tomorrow I will start the back but I really want to sew those inserts for the other three pillows I've made.

Maxi & I are planning to sleep in tomorrow though & he has asked permission to use my bed once I get up. Mama's bed is a magic bed, don't you know? and kids love to sleep there when they feel in the need of something special. lol

Last night I only got 4 hours sleep and I've been on the run all day. So I will say goodnight to you all.

Safe away home O my palies and sweet dreams to you all.

I like the little mouse too- though the one with my new desktop is pretty good- it is shaped better and easier on my hands... not to big either... I have small hands too so I have a hard time with some things...
I know Jiffy- I had carpel tunnel bad when I worked- had physical therapy and cortisone shots for it too- they wanted to do surgery but at same time said it probably wouldn't help... so I said why go thru it if you don't think it will help any? at about same time my hubby's job sent him here and then 9 months later my company offered an early out... so I took it and we sold the house and moved here- took about 3 yrs before my hands didn't hurt all the time but now typing doesn't hurt- but I have trouble with feeling hot stuff- very careful with bath water and for the bottles for the kids when they were babies... I have very little hand strength- have to be very careful to pick up heavy things... pain if I am alone and have to do it-- when Joseph was small and it was really bad I couldn't tell if I was holding something tight enough- including him-- probably squeezed him a few times to make sure I wouldn't drop him... I used to have to sleep in the gloves all the time - now only if I am doing a whole lot of cleaning - weeding ... anything that requires me to grip to long- then I pay the price... use a lot of motrin those days...
Welll better go and get the last load of laundry out-
Nana

I haven't logged into webkinz for a week, I think. John's sister and brother-in-law came to visit this morning. I helped Jonni make up a couple of desserts for a pot luck she went to tonight. I made a quick run out to the post office and a store today. The rest of the day was a quiet day.
It only almost reached 80* today.

Jonni cooking for a weekend potluck has become regular for her. She enjoys it and the hanging out with a bunch of adults. Playing no-bet poker. I just told her if they start asking for child support things would change.

Well, these friends don't have a lot of funds to mess around with (hence the potlucks). So they play pretend betting. And Jonni is learning
Today we made a huge chocolate and Bailey's Irish Cream charlotte. I guess it went over well.

Ok, I do not use a recipe. I like a clear glass bowl because it looks so good but that is not necessary either. Today I used lady fingers because I had them. But you can use pound cake cut into 'fingers' or any cake at all. Even twinkies cut in half lengthwise. Line the bowl you are going to use in the cakey stuff. Sprinkle on alcohol of choice or any flavored syupy stuff until moist but not soggy. (Take a sip or two to make sure your booze hasn't spoiled). Whip up two packages of instant pudding in a flavor of your choice with 3 cups cold milk. When it is about ready add an 8 oz. container of cool whip. Pour over drunk cake. Cover and put into fridge to finish setting.
Today we topped with spritzes of canned whipped cream and sliced strawberries.
In the clear bowl this looks so good and tastes as good as it looks. And the flavor options are endless.
A charlotte is a cake and pudding mix dessert. You can use sugar free pudding and low fat milk (but don't use skim). You can use Angel food cake (no fat there) and low fat cool whip. You can play with this endlessly.

why thank you Tina--that is a very nice dessert--and gee if I put it in a fancy bowl, people would he really impressed--and I'll never tell.....

and thanks for reminding me to test the alcohol--I wouldn't want to use bad stuff on a dessert now would I???? clap
