The other thread went over 100, so I'm starting up a new one.
I have posted these items before, but not altogether as one baby gift. We gave them to a couple from Don's office who had a baby boy last week - Liam. Now I need to find out what his other friend's daughter is going to have so I can get started on a gift for her.
Lynne I swear you should set up an ebay account or something you could make some $$ doing that,, even tho I know you enjoy knitting you are really really talented and the way you make gift assembles and package them up,, I really liked the way you made the wash cloth gift box for the flute teacher,. Your Hired!!!!!!

The problem with selling anything I make, is that the time that goes into making them would never be compensated, so I prefer to make things for friends and family whom I hope will enjoy them, as much as I do making them.
And on that note... we went to see Amy for Parents' Day today at her university, and I just had to take a picture of the lap blanket I had made for her - the colors really are so perfect for the pillows and bedding she had chosen for her room there!
And no... her room does not always look this neat - I had asked her to make up her bed since her grandparents would be there today too - nice that she obliged!
Well... I finally got the packages sent out to Amy and her friend Nicole. Each one got 7 crocheted candy corn, and a large bag of the real candies.
Here is one batch before I sent it - the bowl did not go - it's mine .
With the real candy that I also sent...
I hope it's a fun package for them to receive - this is mid-term week for Amy.
Since last night, I have been working on a new pattern that I found on the knitting forum - it's a herringbone stitch - looks very nice, but it's a killer on my hands! Very slow going, but I am determined to finish this project - stay tuned...
Lynne--once again a wonderful project. The girls will be thrilled with the knitted candy corn, I am sure, after all who will have seen them before??--and who does not like getting candy at Halloween?? This will be an all around hit I am sure.
and I wonder......Did you make 'Lynne' any candy corns for her bowl???
________
Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain!! .....
Thanks Carol! I did keep the first one I made of each color - one yellow and one brown. Amy called this morning to thank me - she especially liked that I made them "regular and chocolate", but wants to know what she's supposed to do with them!
I just finished my next project - I taught myself the herringbone stitch from some excellent sites online - but I must say that it is very hard on my hands. Once I understood the pattern it really was simple, but it gave me a lot of cramped muscles. If I make this project again, I will use a different stitch - I'm sure it will look just as nice.
The pattern says that it looks best in variegated yarns, so I used some black/grey/white that I had. It made for interesting patterns in the project.
That is very pretty, Lynne. I would have a hard time coming up with a practical use for it in our climate. Tell Amy to bring her seasonal stuff home to store after holidays. The ever changing decor in her room should help cheer her up.

I crochette here in so. texas, jonni. I mainly stick to blankets, ponchos, and scarfs. scarfs are really easy to make but people here (like where you are) will only get the oportunity to wear them once or twice a year. I'll have to post some of my crochette pics here soon. I just so dread going into photobucket anymore.

And yes... we can store Amy's things here, but what she really was asking was... what is she to do with them for now - I told her she could share them with her friends if she likes, or just put them on her windowsill, or squeeze them or throw them - they really have no purpose and I suppose she doesn't really have a place to put them in her small dorm room. I just wanted her to know that I was thinking of her, and that worked, so all is well.
I kind of expected that reaction anyway, since her father said the same thing when I showed them to him - "what is she going to do with them?" It's definitely "like father like daughter" in this family.

It is a knit stitch that is accomplished over 2 rows - front and back are different stitches. Again... easy to figure out, but very hard on my hands. A softer, more giving yarn might be easier to use in this stitch - will try that another time.
I made my first sweater. It was hard to get a good picture of but this is the best I could do. I will have to take one in daylight so that it shows the color better.
Here is a baby hat and booties I made for a gift for a friend of mine that had a baby yesterday.
Lynne I love that Neck warmer and the Buttons on it is Puuuuuuuuuuurrrfect!
Jessica WOW you have really progressed with your Knitting That is Greaat! Very nice sweater, and the Bootie and hat is awesome,, Love the yarn for them!
"Grace without perfection is more to be desired than perfection without grace."
WOW Jessica - I really like the hat and booties and the yarn is terrific - do you remember what kind you used? I've not seen that before.
And the sweater is terrific!!! I've only made one so far - a cardigan, but I sewed the armholes too tight and haven't tried to rip out the sewing yet, so it's not finished yet. One of these days...
That is adorable, Lynne. How big/small is it? I am trying to compare it to the bricks and it looks small. Like a tart size? Is that a metallic yarn for the pie pan?
~Tina

I have only made one of them so far, and it is about 4 inches across, and 4 inches high to the tip of the "whipped cream". The yarn I used for the bottom does look like it's metallic in the picture, and it is supposed to look like a pie pan, but it is really a light grey with white and black specs in it. I think it does the job well, but that was the last of that yarn.
I might make one for Amy and her friend Nikki and send them to them for Thanksgiving. This test one is for ME!
My sweater was a top down Lynne so there was no sewing required. I have another that I am going to be starting but it is more complicated.
The yarn I used for the hat and booties is really a sock yarn but is so incredibly soft and it works perfect for baby hats and booties. It is called Regia Softy Color. It reminds me of the socks that you can buy in the winter time that you would wear lounging around the house. Do you know what kind I am talking about? They make all kinds of different ones now. Here is a link to the Softy Color yarn. I did not order it from here...I bought it in my local yarn shop...but this gives you an idea of what it is. They have solid colors or self striping. If you scroll down it shows all the colors at the bottom of the page. The one I used was the 00478. I have seen them made in the 00475 and that is very cute too if you don't know the sex of the baby yet.
Over a year ago my mother gave me a kitchen towel that had crochet at the top with a button to hang on my kitchen drawer hang. I have used it to death and want another. I can't find them in the stores around here. Help.

Sheri--they sell them all the time around here at craft fairs---I will keep my eyes open for them for you----is there any color you would prefer--if there is a choice.??? and if there is no choice, is there a color you definatley DO NOT want????
________

My Mom Used to make those,,,,, Alot of them,,,,, Don't know where you can buy them other than a craft show as the others have said, Why not make your own>>???
"Grace without perfection is more to be desired than perfection without grace."
I called my mom and she did buy it at a craft fair. I don't care what color. It's so convenient hanging right there on the drawer. I'll keep my eyes out too and buy us all one if I can find them.
I thought I'd share what's been taking up some of my time lately. I had a request from a friend, to make some fingerless gloves for the holidays, and I wanted to add a little something extra. I found this great pattern for a headband, to go with the cables on the gloves, and included one for each gift.
Don saw me, and once again asked me to make some for the young women in his office who work for him. So far, he's requested 7! (I'm still working on those!) I also made a bright red one for Christmas for my friend Liz, who works at Michael's and has been very generous and kind to me - teaching me beading, giving me some yarn and beads she no longer wants!
If each one didn't take a whole day to make, I'd try selling them, but I would never get back in price all the hours that were consumed. Oh well... it's great fun making them for friends and others!!!
Love those Lynne!!!!!!!!! Hey I'm wearing Mine now around the house,,,,,, It keeps my hair back out of my face as well as warms my ears,,, Thank you for Mine!

those are way better than any I"ve done, (or seen done)! those are awesome! I have about an hours worth of work on finishing up a blanket, then I want to start a new project. any ideas? I have been considering crochetting a big doily (have no idea how to spell that) for the kitchen table. I like to do useful stuff and since I'm in texas, I really can't do anymore scarfs or gloves or hats.

Bestofour, I did a couple of those towels for my kitchen. Your right they are wonderful. If you want a couple I'll make them for you. Just tell me your kitchen colors. Our Walmart is having a closeout sale on materials so I might be able to find something cheap. If not then normally what happens is you buy a kitchen towel and cut it in too and make them out of those.
Hey Cricket I don't know about you but I love the curtains with the crocheted tops and bottoms. They are usually done with a khaki colored material. I think they are especially pretty in the kitchen.
And of course there are always the lace curtains with the open work designs on them. I have a hard time following a grid pattern though so I usually leave those alone.
I also like to make shawls using the metalic threads using a trellis pattern.
Shams for the bedroom are nice too especially if you do an afgan in blocks so that you can use the same pattern for the shams.
Pillow covers for the throw pillows are nice too.
These are just some ideas of things that you can do even in a warm climate.

You can do long table runners crochet .. I have a great pineapple doily sis made and love it..........On my tv.
If you really want to go big, do ripple afghans......There are lots of free patterns on line for crochet.
Thanks so much for looking everyone, and for your very kind words!
I made another headband yesterday from a new yarn to me - Bernat's softee chunky. I used needles 2 sizes smaller than the yarn calls for, to make the headband thicker and warmer - I really really like this yarn, and it's very inexpensive too! I think it would make a very nice, soft baby blanket sometime too.
tammy, the towels i have were made with the towel just folded over and the crochet through the fold. i love them! in fact, i think i'll try to make some. gotta find one to use for a pattern though
That is really pretty too, Lynne. I have some of that yarn, same color. I wanted to try a sweater from it for myself. Haven't begun. I sent you an email with the towel topper patterns, Jiffy.

that does look extreamly soft. you mentioned it was very expensive yarn though. a baby blanket would cost you a fortune to make. that's what I run into sometimes. I saw an awesome pattern for a blanket at hobby lobby, but when I added up all the cost of all skeins of all the colors the blanket would have cost about 60 bucks.

BTW does anyone know of a pattern for leg warmers. I haven't seen them to buy is years and I'd love to have some. I just can't quite figure out how to make them so they will stay up on my leg without cutting off the circulation. crochet or knit either one would be great.
Thanks Jonni13 that is exactly what I was looking for.
Sheri I found a great deal on blue and white checked terry cloth dish towels. So I'll be getting on that project right soon. Woohoo. I love having a project to do.
Dodge you are a silly girl but I love you to pieces.
I did the dishtowels straight without a design. I think they turned out good but it will depend on what Sheri says.
I did one leg warmer but it was to tight over the calf so I'm going to modify it and actually add some stitches when it gets that high and then I'll decrease to finish. Shouldn't be to hard of a change.
I'm glad I got a 16 oz skein of yarn. For Sheri's project, otherwise I wouldn't have had enough for this other stuff.
I'm having so much fun. I haven't really crocheted in years.
It's nice to have friends who know how to do things. I've got a pair of socks I started over a year ago when I went to a class. Now I can't finish them because I can't remember how. Maybe I'll send them to one of you to complete.
TK is too fast. I'll post pictures as soon as I get them and I'm going to break down and throw this worn, broken button one in the trash. I've used it so much it won't dry anymore anyway.
I knit my first pair of socks. I will take pictures tonight and post them. I am excited and I think I am obsessed with knitting socks. You should see all of the sock yarn I have bought!
I can't wait to see your socks, Jessica!!! That is the one thing I have no desire to knit - EVER! We all go through socks so quickly here, that I would rather not put the time into making them, only to have them worn out quickly.
I knit them on 3 needles, Sheri. I know that it is a lot of work for a pair of socks, Lynne, but I enjoy doing it more than anything. They are extremely comfy too. I have them on today!
Here are the last 4 headbands that I made for the women in Don's office. Now all that's left is for me to wrap them - got some cute Christmas bags today!
Well... I ended up making 10 headbands for Don's office gifts, and then today at 5p.m., he called me and said that a few younger women gave him small gifts today and he hadn't included them. OHHHHHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOO YOU DON'T!!! There are NOT enough hours in tonight for me to just whip up 3 more headbands!!! Besides, my elbow is very sore to the point where I cannot even grasp a glass with my right hand, from all the knitting I've been doing of late. Don't get me wrong... I do love making gifts for others, but it was too much in a short period of time.
So, the other 3 people are getting fudge - ala Rachel Ray's 5 minute fudge - it's oh-so-yummy, and I used almond flavoring. Another young woman in his group is getting 2 knit washcloths and 2 knit tribbles (scrubbers), and a nice bottle of pear scented liquid soap - she does more work for Don.
Here are the headbands all wrapped up - I didn't know how to wrap them, and Carol had suggested looking in WalMart for boxes - THANKS Carol! I didn't want to spend a lot of money on the wrapping, and found these cute bags there, 5 for $1 - perfect! I punched holes in the tops and threaded ribbon, and made tags online - voila!
Those look beautiful. A nice presentation all-in-all. Good job again. Lynne. I have used decorated lunch bags when I can find them for gift bags for years. They always look awesome. Yours look a touch better quality than I usually get though.

I modified the leg warmer pattern so it has a crocheted rib knit looking top and bottom and they fit perfectly. I'm wearing them right now. Woohoo. They are nice and warm in my 64 degree house. My electric bill was 158 dollars last month and the heat wasn't even on that much.

Our bill is usually $100. We think good deal for running the whole farm. House ,barn, garage......
Mine will be lower next winter because I'll get the fireplace cleaned and the wood cut. That will help alot with the winter costs. Summer costs are another matter all together.
I have dial up through people pc it is 9.95 per month.
I went to the after christmas sale at walmart. I spent way more than I should have and now I can't wait for next christmas when I can decorate some more lol.
While i was there I found the yarn, kitchen towels and buttons that I want for Junegirls kitchen. I can't wait to get started on them. This evening probably.

my last months heating bill was $208.00 and this months will be like 250.00 DH says---between the cold weather AND the nativity and porch pillars lights.
My budget for heat is $180.00--fun fun---NOT---

I thought I'd post what I made for my dad last night and today. I wanted to send him something when I sent the necklace/bracelet set to my mom, and couldn't figure out what to do - any candy would most likely melt in the Florida heat before it got to them, and he really has everything he needs. So I got the idea to make him a crocheted bowl for his night table to keep his keys, golf tees, butterscotches, etc in. I thought these colors were masculine, and I liked the blue for his nice blue eyes. It is not as big as it appears here - it measures 6 1/2 inches across, and 1 1/2 inches high.
Oh wow you guys do such great work! I was looking at all of this and got a wild hair and thought oh heck I will try and crochet a little baby blanket. Well I started out crocheting a line the length of the width of a twin bed but something went horribly wrong......see below
It curled up and shrunk way to little. This wouldn't even keep a doll warm evenif I finished it.
My next house will have no kitchen - just vending machines and a large trash can.
No one here is saying they never pulled out a project that went wrong, Memosa. Don't get discouraged. We only post pics of the ones that went right. It sounds like you might just need to count a little better and recognize when your original chain is 'turning' on you. You can get it right. It takes practice.
~Tina
Drama Free Zone. What every gardener loves the most, Begins and ends in rich compost. (Tina)
I pull out almost every project 2 to 4 times before I get going on the right track. That wouldn't be so necessary if I would do a sample for gage but I don't. Also it wouldn't be so necessary if I would follow a pattern but I don't do that either. And yes depending on the stitch you use the original chain will shorten sometimes considerable. The double sided stitch that I use requires that my original chain be 1/2 again the size of the finished afgan that I want to make that's just an example of how much "shrinkage one type of stitch can have.
when I first started crochetting I made some very large projects that turned out horrible. I'm a bit of a rebel when it comes to following a pattern also. but, I've learned a lot from the few patterns I have followed. it's kinda like cooking with a new recipe. sometimes it's better to follow the reciepe to the letter the first time. then you can tweek it the next time.

Memosa......
Let me help you.
First I see you are pulling the needle tooooooooooo tight . Use a larger hook and Relax and do not pull the each stitch tight . Just pull the yarn thru . Yarn over the hook loosly.
Try the relax way of crochet........Just make a foot long sample and do a few rows till you get the hang of it.
Oh no I do bad enough with one needle I would just panic with 2. After all I thought that this was suppose to be relaxing. Well, I need a couple of Valiums when I get to trying to do this. Give me my paints and glue gun anyday when i want to do something relaxing.
My next house will have no kitchen - just vending machines and a large trash can.
Memosa - most projects that I do are trial by error. As Tina said... I only post the successful ones!
I actually prefer knitting, but lately I've been doing some small crochet projects. I absolutely cannot crochet a straight line if my life depended on it! Well let me clarify - I cannot get the concept of turning a row in crocheting, no matter how many people show me how to do it - the rows always end up shorter than the previous one! So I simply don't do those types of projects. I'm great at crocheting in circles though, so that is the type of crochet projects I do - as in the bowl I just finished, or the toys I've made.
It can be quite satisfying finishing something that someone else will hopefully enjoy. In that respect, stay with your painting and glue gun if that gives you pleasure, and don't worry about crocheting!
To be perfectly honest i don't like taking any drugs that I don't have to especially if they have the potential to be addictive so for me to feel like I could consider it it must be a pretty frustrating problem for me.
My next house will have no kitchen - just vending machines and a large trash can.
