Went to Walmart and Lowes and FleetFarm today - can't find a bag of this. I can't get my Gerbera seeds to germinate, so got some more seeds and the lady said to try using this instead of peat pellets or starter mix, but I can only fine Perlite! Anyone?

Oh yah - At Walmart, this was the first time I've seen them sell these, but they had flats of tulips bulbs and other spring blooming bulbs for sale that were poking through the top - planted in peat pots and peat containers that you just put right in the garden and they are already growing. Thought that was neat!

Patty, I can't find vermiculite in my area either. Even the local nurseries don't carry it. They only carry Perlite. So that's what I got. I don't know how it differs from vermiculite either, but they both end in 'lite', so they can't be that different, right? lol maybe not.

Maybe I'll just mix the perlite with starter mix and see if that helps. ??

Yep, that's exactly what I was going to say,
grab the perlite... it's in the same ballpark,
light airy texture, and has small traces of nutrients..

And just an FYI, when using Perlite vs. Vermiculite..
The perlite is used to keep the soil light and fluffy,
The other does the fluffy part, but also has nutrients in it, but they stay wetter longer and for some plants/seedlings, it is not nessessary or wanted by some plants that like dry feet/roots...
