They had an episode where they were making shingles out of bark. All I remember is that you cut the log in half. But I don't remember how you get the bark off. Does anyone remember or know how to do that? It looked like such a cool idea.

Well I think I've mentioned that the front of my shed at the bottom is rotted. The previous owner painted it but the bottom is all ragged edges. And it's made of plywood with 1x1's attached to it about every 12 inches. So I was thinking maybe I could shingle with bark shingles about 1/3 of the way up the front of the shed after removing the damaged wood and putting a vapor seal down and then the self sealing tar paper. What do you think. Cool?

Sounds cool....if you just buy the shingles Sounds like alot of work to make the shingles first. Are they birch shingles? they'd be the easiest...you just cut deeply and peel off.

No they used poplar. I know I have some poplar trees on my property which got me to thinking. I couldn't afford to buy them but maybe I could afford to make them. I just can't figure out how to "peel them off" in one piece.
