I see this category mentions cheap plant markers. I've been needing quite a few and someone told me to use old mini blinds. Found some at a garage sale for .50 each. What a great idea and price! Of course you have a lot of cutting to do but o'well! I sat and did some while watching a program on television.

I've seen people use them. they're very slick though, so you gotta be particular on what you use to write on them with - so it won't wear off.

That's true - I have found it not that great with the magic marker I used. But these are in the greenhouse for now. Think I'll try a paint marker I have and see how that does for putting outside ones.

You can always use scotch, or some other see through tape over the writing. That will keep it from wearing off. :)

Try vinyl mini blind slats and use a Sharpe to right on it with. The aluminum slats are coated with paint and the ink will not last a long time. Vinyl will absorb the ink and stay.

I read somewhere about using plastic knives, I'm gotta try that this year

My handwriting is the suck. But, I can still use this. I got a Dymo Letra Tag label printer on sale for closeout. The waterproof plastic label material is 8.00 or so but, will make lots of tags! Thanks!

Another idea with the blinds could be to drill or melt a small hole and cut a straight line to the hole and attach this tag to my hybridizing efforts and what I did.

I recommend this idea. Whenever I have to label things with slippery surfaces (like ribbons on Christmas presents for example), putting Scotch tape on the surface and writing on the tape is much more effective than actually writing on the slick surface. Make sure to let the writing dry for a bit before putting them out though!

Thanks so much for this idea. My handwriting is kinda bad so I use a Dymo letratag labeler with plastic labels. This helped me so much especially with pollination efforts and labeling what my cuttings are.



Here is my marker. I melted a hole through the blinds part and will hang on the shrub loosely with a zip tie. I forgot the I but, know what it is.
