We removed part of the paneling that is on the kitchen wall that we are going to knock out. Behind it are old newspapers lining the walls. Something that was very common, I know, but there is one topic that caught my eye and I just think it is the neatest thing ever! There is a write up on the Republican nominees for President and Vice-president.......in 1892!!!!!! Benjamin Harrison and Whitelaw Reid were up for re-election (history will tell us that they did not win, but that Grover Cleveland won). The write up is complete with sketches of the nominees.

I think the newspaper is in good enough shape that it will come off pretty easily once I get all of the paneling and bead board removed. I took a bunch of pictures of all of the newspaper that has been uncovered so far so that I can read them here on the computer (much easier than leaning over to try to read it). Just thought this is something that a few of you would find interesting.

That is very cool, Jenn. You might even find something that will end up paying your mortgage off. (like an original first edition playboy)

Ohhhhhh Jenn how cool is that!!!!! just like on the TV show: If Walls could talk",
No telling what else you may discover! do you have an attic or basement?? You could find some treasures there too, On that show many have found things between the walls , and ceilings or room additions,, as heating ducts were later installed, or under floor planks! Got a metal detector?? Might find some treasures buried in the yard as well! clap

Diane is right, it's like If Walls Could Talk on HGTV....I watch that all the time. That is so neat that you uncovered such a thing in your home. Very cool. I love history and old things and I wish I'd have found things like that in our 100+ years home.

Maybe you should contact your local historical society for advice on what to do. They may know how to preserve the newspaper or how to remove it without damage.

I was tearing down an old farmhouse that was beyond repair and found newspapers from the 1930's with the headlines something like Hitler Invades Poland!
