So this spring, I was a bit hesitant to put some stuff in the garden, so now I have some extra space that I'd like to fill up. It's not too big though. What are some good choices for me, so I can get some seeds started and then transplant them into the extra space for the fall?

broccoli and other cole crops can be started now for fall harvest. Try some peas up a fence.

Territorial Seed puts out a fall catalog this time of year with great information and ideas that you might not think of. I am planting rutabagas, broccoli and cauliflower, cabbage, peas, beans, carrots, radish, lettuce, broccoli rabe, bok choy, kale and possibly beets and brussels. you just want to pick varieties that have less days to maturity. Like there is a green bean that makes little tender green beans in only 55 days. There are broc/caul and carrots that mature in 50 days or less. Also you can plant some things and cover with mulch and harvest in winter or spring. Sometimes I do that accidentally. I had carrots in the garden this spring. They were so cute. Because of the heat I will start many of the things in the basement and then plant out in a cool spell in the next few weeks. We can expect to grow here through October.
