Luckily hope is in sight. Cold front will be moving thru tomorrow night and cooling it down a bit.....I mean not really super dramatically cool, but it will become about normal again.
One more day of heat to get thru, just one more day!
Barb, they can keep the 10 inches of rain. Our town floods real bad.
The picture Georges Creek 1, well that wall protects our town from floods, Georges Creek meets up with the Potomac River just a bit down there. Well it's come up over that before. Luckily we live on a hill.
Don has called the guy who put in our sewer pipes last year - he was such a nice guy and knows EVERYONE in our county. He's also the one who dug the hole for our pond for free with the tractor he used for the sewer pipes - nice guy!
He got a referal for a plumber in case we need to have the AC replaced. Don was explaining to me that IF the compressor is shot, we would have to replace the entire AC because years ago the county mandated that people could not use systems that use freon anymore if they need to get new units. It's bad for the environment.
So please hope this is a quick fix - we so do not have the $ to put in a whole new system right now!!!!!!!
Don will wait to call the guy until he speaks with me dad and takes another look at everything when he gets home from work. My dad knows a lot about that stuff so I'm hoping he can give him some pointers as to what to look for.
Lynne, are you saying that you can't use window units because of freon? It's your central air that's out right?
I would totally die.
Years ago in our apartment we didn't have any AC and it was HORRIBLE...one night my brother walked in and said, no way can you sleep in this place, you're coming with us.
Keep holding on for that cold front. It's coming.
Weather channel is always wrong, they have us at 85 right now but we're at 90 right now, in the shade.....
Loz - we do not have any window units and can't use them anyway - we have full length screen windows. It's our central air that is out - Don said to replace it will run somewhere between $5000 - $10,000!!! We just do not have that now!!!
When am I going to catch a break already???
I'm off to shower, though I don't know why - I will be just as wet and hot when I get out as while I'm in there. Will definitely move down to the basement afterwards - good thing there is a computer down there! YEA!
I work at a heating and a/c business Lynne. $5000 - $10000 would be way too much money to put in an a/c here but the prices there are probably higher than here. That is crazy!! There is a new kind of freon and that is probably what your county is talking about. R22 is in old a/c units and they will stop making them soon. The new freon is R410a and is environmentally friendly. That is all we put in now. I sure hope you get your A/C fixed soon!!! You must be miserable!
sorry to jump in rather late in this heat wave thing, but trust me.. working 4 hours in the late afternoon/early evening in this 100* degree, humid weather, is NOT FUN i tell ya!! This florist/nursery job is driving me insane..there so much work to do...and in this heat it gets crazy! i start talking to the ducks!
not to stray off topic, but it does help alot working there.. u know.. with everything everyone here has taught me
OK - it is 91 degrees up here on the bedroom level with the AC still not working! I just took out an italian ice to cool me down 5 minutes ago and it's melted already!!!
Oh, and in our school district... "due to the extreme heat the middle school will get out at 11a.m. tomorrow, and the elementary schools at 12:30. The HIGH SCHOOL will be in session all day"!!!!!!! HUH??? I know it's finals week but they don't start until Wednesday and aren't those kids entitled to cool off like the others? Not that Amy would be able to with the AC broken here anyway...
i know i know.. itss insane!! finals started today, and regents next week... today down in the city the heat index was near 110 in the sun..no joke either its cooled down now.. but my schools air conditioning is garbage
I graduated in 93 and we never had air conditioning in the schools....fans if the teacher brought one in and we were lucky. Some days it was so stinking hot and they didn't cancel school for the heat, we usually had too many makeup days from the winter.......
Mark....I feel bad for you working out in that heat.
And Lynne....I'd sleep in the basement tonight if I were you. I really would.
Loz - Don is sleeping down there - already took the couch - he doesn't feel well today so I don't want to catch whatever he has. I will aim the fan at me and it will be ok.
We didn't have AC in school either, and only a few areas in Amy's high school has it - the auditorium, and a couple of classrooms but not many. And the offices of course!!!
Blowing it up there right now as I type, Tamara!!!
There is a bit of a cool breeze blowing in the windows now, but that will be short lived, as the sun is rising and it's heating up already. Going to be another record breaker today - might have to go out into air-conditioned stores!

now there is an idea, Lynne-- a cool and fun idea!!!
________
Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain!! .....
Well at least a watch isn't as bad as a warning...still, it's scary when you get a watch, just like we did the other day.....makes you a little nervous.
I think Mother Nature is getting very mad at us for polluting the planet.....
It is now 95 in the shade on the deck, and 91 in the house - and we haven't really hit the heat of the day yet!!!
Don called the plumber for the AC and he is coming on Thursday early in the morning. Thankfully Don will be here, because I always feel like I am getting taken since I don't know anything about that kind of thing.
So I sit here with sweat running down everywhere - I'd go in the basement but he is home sick today down there and is blasting the TV!!!

My hubby was stationed in England , wales, france , you name it, in Air Force...he said it rained every single day in England. Good place to have straight hair.
Snoqualamie Pass in WA...hope I spelled that right....they are getting snow!
Yep Barb, in England 80 is a heatwave.....seriously. I remember all the days we'd go to the beach and it would be cold and cloudy and yucky. You just get used to it and make the best out of it.
Lynne, hope you get AC soon---I couldn't stand it without the AC. I would just die for real.
Do you go to the beach here in Maryland? My sister used to live in Baltimore Maryland and she liked it there. Hubby wanted to come home close to mommmy...LOL
Yep Barb, we go over to Ocean City, MD a lot....I have 2 albums on Shutterfly of our trips...not sure if I can give a link to them or not I'd have to check on there......It's so nice at the beach!
Lots of folks from up here go down that way beaches and rent a house with a pool an party .. We dont , were country lovers. But thought you would if you did out there.
It is now 102 and I just came back in from feeding the fish once again. Don stayed home because he isn't feeling well today - he went out and video taped the fish eating. He was out there for 10 minutes and came back in. I had to water some plants again - they just keep drying out!!!
I am now sitting here with a cool washcloth on the back of my neck and the fan blowing on my head - sheeeesh!
Up to the minute update - it is now 110 on my deck, and 95 up here in the house! The cool washcloth on my neck is barely helping now, and I've taken 2 short naps already today.
Don is fast asleep in the basement with the TV blaring, and Amy is on the computer down there - it's so much cooler - no room for me though and right now I couldn't take the tv noise...
We had a series of storms go thru, unfortunately we didn't get hit by them--just missed us, but it was the cold front and as soon as it went thru it cooled down a lot.
I've been waiting on today for days, because I knew this would be----"The Day the Heat Broke".
We are having the thunder but so far only a sprinkle of rain. We had severe thunder warnings all through the day and it was supposed to hit at 8:55p.m. - it did with wind, but I really think it's passed. No rain, and only a bit of cooling down so far.
