Good morning everyone. The rain is back which means I won't be going outside today like I hoped. Got to get my laundry done and clean up the house a bit. It's not too bad though. I was thinking of going shopping for jeans but the thought depresses me so I just might work on sewing instead.
Oh Cheryl...I have to go clothes shopping soon as well. I keep putting it off hoping for better sales. The whole process of clothes shopping is discouraging.
Hoping your weather clears up.
~~Tam~ You can bury all your troubles by digging in the dirt.
Its especially discouraging when you have to buy bigger sizes than what you had. Even if that wasn't the case, all of my jeans have rips anyway and need replacements. I'm thinking of just going down the street to goodwill and see what they have. First I think I'll have some lunch then a nap. Got to bed late last night and I'm tired.
I got home today and Maxi was on the front porch waiting for me, as always. A few minutes later, when I was in the house, I turned to look out our sliders and saw several girls on bikes all grouped in front of the porch, chatting and giggling away to Maxi who was apparently "holding court"!
I am SO NOT READY FOR THIS! Girls hanging about the house?! O-M-G!
Merme *rolls eyes*
Later, he and the fellas came in to roast marshmellows on the stovetop. THAT felt lots better!
Merme
We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart? The other heart was given to another for us to find.

Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain!! .....
This wild weather has made me realize that climate change is progressing faster than ever before. We must do something before it's too late-and the changes must be big.
We had dinner late tonight. When I got home from dialysis, Maxi helped me put a whole chicken in the oven to roast. We added baked potatoes, green beans and cranberry sauce. What a feast for a Friday night!
Now our bellies are full, we have a movie in and I'm thinking about shutting down the house for any busy-ness. This week has seemed a "mad dash" from one thing to another, and I'm ready to slow us down.
Rachel I don't blame you for taking your laptop along! It is great of you to keep in touch!!

I don't think it is 'weird' Cindy.--wanting to know where Rachel is and that she is 'OK' just proves you are a good and caring mom.--and it reminds her that she is loved.....

morning guys! just in for a bit. wanted to spread a word of caution.... I went out yesteray just to look at my garden. I had on my new sunglass, but didn't really realize I guess. my very small cucumbers were all yellow! I couldn't imagine how they all turned yellow in such a short amount of time. I was so upset! well, i figured theres nothing I can do about it now. just pick them off and hope the next ones do better. I guess I picked 6-7 brought them up to the porch, laid them on the table, sat down, took off my new sunglass, looked down.....at my GREEN cucumbers! Ha ha. I went ahead and cut them up and they are pretty sour. bummer! Man, I guess the heat got to me. and i wasn't thinking right. ha ha

We just got a phone call to announce that family from Cincinnati arrived very early this morning.
My EX's younger brother brought his two kids up. His son is 17 and his daughter is around Maxi's age. I haven't seen the son since he was a baby in a high chair eating green beans and I've never met the daugther. Maxi has never met either cousin.
So right now he is in the shower and is going to get all spiffy for his visit up to see the family today. He is psyched because everyone is saying his cousin Bradley looks just like Maxi's dad did at 17.
They will all be here on Monday, I think.
It should be a nice time.

Sounds like Maxi will have a nice time--it is nice that he will get to meet his cousins--and that he will get to have an idea of what his dad looked like when he was younger---and yes i know there are probably pictures but this will be up close and personal so to speak---
i am happy for him.-- thanks for sharing.--I am also glad they made the trip safely.

Yes, I am also glad about the safe trip. It is 15 hours by car from Cincinnati to Portland. Ray drove a different way and it ended up being 17 hours. Sometimes the routes shown on web maps aren't the fastest although they might be shorter in terms of miles.
When we come up here from NYC, we ALWAYS take the coastal route on I-95 although the map routes you inland. The inland route takes you through Hartford, CT and you can get caught up in traffic there for HOURS and HOURS. But never on I-95... you just keep on sailing. Plus, the coastal route is simply beautiful! And you don't get to see that on the inland journey.
The sky is getting darker and darker; rain will be soon.

yes the scenic routes are always my favorite ones too.
sorry about the approching rain--but perhaps it will rain today and or tomorrow & be dry for you on memorial day.--I would hate for maxi to have his parade rained on---(sorry )

Maxi's band is the only "hard weather" middle school band in our area. I have a feeling they will march regardless of weather unless the entire show is cancelled. LMS band kids are TOUGH!!
And, the way these children adore their leader is awesome. Everyone just loves him to pieces.

a good and well liked band leader makes all the difference in the world.--it will nurture a child's love of music all thru their life---it makes me feel so good to hear this.--good for Maxi---

It seems as though the storm is holding off here for a bit. The sky is still so threatening though, it will be soon and the wind is quite blustery out there.
I am going to make a pot of homemade chicken stew. It will be so yummy when it is cold and wet out there.
I think Maxi will be having lobsters tonight while he is visiting the family. That is the first thing everyone wants when they come to Maine. Right now in my town, lobsters are $6 at the pounds. Restaurants are much higher, though.

You should make a point of having it someday, Carol Jean. But I would avoid trying it at one of those lobster chain restaurants. The quality can't compare.
But of all the things people do with lobster -- all the fancy recipes available, many of us feel that what beats all is simple lobster with clarified butter for dipping. It is a messy project (that's why restaurants serve it with a bib), but ohmygoodness the mess is so worth the taste!
You can, of course, buy fresh lobster already taken out of the shell but it is usually around $95 a pound that way!

well being in the middle of the country like i am, merme---red Lobster is about my only option---besides steak housees ---and yes i miagine clarified butter is the way to go----I am a big crab lover--
and it makes me sick to think back to when I was 21 years old.---my cousin & I visited my uncle who lives in Silver Springs MD. one night for a party he had he brought in 2 bushels of steamed crab fresh from the ocean---now no one taught us how to open them--and after 2 very small bites--we were pretty much done trying--- Every time I think of that all I can think of is--if only I could have that oportunity now------
I will try it sometime now--thanks for the recommendation

Maxi just left to go to his dad's until Monday. The surprise visit from his uncle threw all our plans whacky. I hadn't meant to be alone this weekend.
But now I do get that much deserved nap!
Bye all.

I ALSO decided I need some consolation. Today has been really, really hard.
So, after hearing about it for the last few years here in CH, I am finally going to have a "Tea & Sympathy" tonight!
I may decide to have it after I get in bed just in case it hits me harder than I want. I'm pretty much a lightweight these days.

"Tea & Sympathy", Jiffy, is a cup of hot tea with some Grand Marnier added.
Grand Marnier is an orange flavored type of triple sec made of blended cognacs.
I just bought the very tiny bottle because the full-sized bottle was a bit too pricey for my palate!
It is so blustery here tonight, I think this drink will be wonderful.
My pal Rich the chef used to say that Grand Marnier can warm the very cockles of one's heart.
Sounds good to me!
