A lady just brought me 2 big buckets of LOTV, she knew I was starting to landscape the shade areas of the farmstead. How far apart do I plant these 'pips?'?

4-6 inches should be plenty to give them some room to spread out. and supposedly they do - not in my garden though (they might be getting too much sun where they are though).

I'd be careful about dividing individual pips. They grow through underground runners, and the more damage you do to the system the less likely they'll be to survive. I've had luck transplanting LOTV in rather large clumps (10+ pips per clump) and watering, watering, watering for a few days. Next year when they come up again, you can thin them. For now, I'd just worry about getting them to survive the transplant. They can be finicky.

lily of the valley. a very nice, although depending on your location - invasive, plant. makes great ground cover.

I have two beds full of LOTV and am trying to get rid of it. It is so thick with roots and runners underground I don't even think a tiller can get through. Have used round up on the smaller and will try to dig and turn next spring.
I can think of other things I would rather try to grow.
