Yes it is. James and I are both part Irish. His family lives in a town that really goes all out for this holiday and since we are Irish we all go for the celebration. We walk in the parade with his family. They have a family banner and everything. It is fun! We will celebrate on Saturday...the 15th since St. Patrick's Day is on a weekday. thumbup

We are not Irish at all, but do enjoy getting the very green bagels at our local bagel shop - it's always a treat, that they only make on St. Patrick's Day - they sell out really fast too!

we avoid st. pat's even though i'm part irish. mostly because savannah has the largest st. pat's celebration per capita in the world, and on of the top 3 in the nation. only nyc has a larger one. we alternate with boston for the 2nd place spot.

this year, they are having the parade on 3/14 since st. pat's is during holy week.

i'll stay home that day since it is a paid holiday here, if you work in the downtown/historic district or on the parade route, which i do.

i might wear green or orange on monday 3/17 though.

we are not irish either but I decorate for all the holidays--I tried to for the girls when hey were small but 'life' often got inm my way.--

It works out well now because as Emily & Chris were coming in the house last friday afternoon they were commenting on my door wreath & my garden flag & Emily said well if mom is up to it the mantle will be decorated as well.
--then there is my glass sliding door & the seasonal window 'clings' as well--

I was ever so glad it was all up--made up for the past a bit (I hope.)

I decorate a bit for all the holidays and go all out for Christmas.

We always get the worst storm of the year around St. Patty's day. That was my fathers birthday as well.

We don't do anything now, when DD was younger we celebrated it though.

I'm the only one in my house with any irish in them. I always wear green on St. Pattys day but I don't really do any celebrating like I used to when I was single and still drank. We're going to have dancers from some irish dance academy at my work on Monday so that should be interesting.

I usually send some cookies or something for the kids' classes. Jonni has outgrown it but Ted's class enjoys. I took some leprechaun pencils into his class for all of the students today. That is in case I don't do anything else. Last year I took in hats for each kid. They still have them there. But we don't really celebrate or decorate at home. We are not much for drinking and it seems to have become an alcoholic holiday. I try to remember to wear green and dress Ted in green, too.

My kids did that too.

I remember I made Valarie a green pair of slacks and then she wore a white blouse, green button down shirt as a jacket. Then I think I gave her some green "jewelry" to wear. She was like in 2nd grade--so that part was a big deal.---

Funny I do not remember Emil'y dressing up---But if I did it for one, I know I did it for the other---

I am hoping to be off that day so I can do 'lucky kids' with "I am happy" at the local children's hospital. They pass out pins, necklaces, crafts, etc to the kids...

Not doing anything special on St. Patrick's Day but on the 14th I'm running the St. Patrick's Day Dash. Of course, at the end of the race there is a beer garden and all sorts of festivities. I don't drink, especially not beer, but that was all the motivation my brother needed to decided to run the race with me, lol. They have a costume contest too. I was thinking about how I could make a leprechaun running costume but I don't know how to make that work. I'll just wear green socks and shirt or something.
