WOW What a find!! cost me $15 at my nursery,, I had a coupon for $5 off $20 purchase! clap

I'm glad I got off work early! Last week I saw it and didn't want to pay $20 for it well I kinda wanted to but,,,,,, notme Saturday I got the coupon in the mail,, so I figured that was a sign I was supposed to get this plant!..
Over the weekend I did some research on these and found out they don't like to be root bound and I had noticed all of the ones in the nursery were root bound shock OK!!!!!!! I was going to rescue of them! thumbup lol .

When I went back today I looked for the healthiest one with the freshest bloom,, not only did I find it,, this one also has 'pups' 2 maybe 3!!!.. so in late spring/early summer, I can divide it out! clap *Making that $15 work for me notme !!*

Bloom...

New 'Pups'

It likes 60% peat,30%perlite,and 10% vermiculite, ~~~ all shade, and kept moist,

There are more buds in the center of this flower that hasn't bloomed yet!!

Keeping My fingers crossed that it will be a surviver here,, I won't put it in ground,, I'll keep it in a container, and set it outside in the spring in all shade!

WOW - weird looking plant!!! Does it grow like an orchid? It looks like it would belong in the family.

Very cool deal, and I'm SURE you will make tons of plants from that first one, once you get it going!!!

I don't believe they are in the orchid family. BUT I read if you can grow orchids inside then these shouldn't be a problem,, They are testy inside,, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed,, they don't like dry air, and need really good air circulation, Can't wait until spring to take outside!

you know, last year I happened upon this plant on E-bay. I did not buy it--although I should have done so. After seeing yours I may re-think that decision.

keep me/us posted.

You are sooo lucky. I have wanted one for years. But they said it is so picky I just did not want to risk ordering it. If I saw one locally I would buy it.

Yes you do have to love them once in a while you and I both have gotten addicted to what they have. You always pass it off to me kissie thats because you know how weak I am. Donnie told me they had one left so he must not have seen the other one in that huge pot. I know I have wanted a Bat Plant ever since I saw a photo of one a year or 2 back. You may have shown me that photo or we may have seen one at that Home and Garden show we went too a couple of years back. You know the one with very little garden and a lot of home improvements uhuhh

Thanks Nuria, and Carol,,,
Today I noticed all of the center buds have completely bloomed and I'm sure the entire bloom will soon be 'spent' so now I have to do a search to know whether to cut off the entire bloom stock or just the bloom annnnnd figure out how to seperate the pups from the mother plant,,

That is the coolest looking plant I've ever seen! Now I want one. I love plants that are different and unusual, where would you find something like that?

Thanks Cheryl!I got lucky and found it at a nursery,, But they can be found on web sites also.

I did a search and found NOT to cut off the flower as it will provides seeds,, the draw back is that it takes Months to germinate, and needs a heated mat at consistent heat, will need Dampoff treated seeding soil,, and the fresher the seeds the better the germination,, SOOOOOOOOO if anyone has a seed germinating heating mat and wants to give this a shot let me know IF I can successfully harvest the seeds.

Also I can separate the pups easily enough like separating any other tuber plant, I have been reading conflicting care for them tho rolz some say not out side while other sites say it's okay outside as long as there is high humidity, no direct sun, and ground is kept moist! sounds like it would do well in a rain forest like the everwet state notme lol
