Hey everyone! wavy
I'm completely new to gardening and my dad had recently bought me a couple of potted flowers and other types of indoor plants. What sorts of books or reliable websites (besides this one) would you suggest me to research from to be more educated of the needs of various types of plants? What sorts of gardening books are good for beginners like me?

Thanking you all in advance

i'm not sure you need to go anywhere else reema! welcome to the garden helper, the best, friendliest site on the web! wavy

generally speaking, we are a diverse enough group that what ever your question, what ever your environment, someone can answer your questions. just tell us what kind of plants you have and we'll go from there.

Hi and welcome to the forum! I started by buying the plants I liked, learning how to keep them alive, and then going from there. I think all gardening books are good for all stages of a gardener. If you're just starting out with house plants, buy a book on house plants. It's really easy to get hooked and like JIffy said there really is a diverse group of people here and we all grow different things so there is a plethora of information available from this site alone. Happy gardening to you and hope to see you around here again!

That's good to hear then grin but the problem is, my father bought me these house plants as presents and none of us know they're exact names, so I'm wondering if I could post the pictures of my plants in this forum so that you could help me out? Thank you again

You need to use a photo site, I use photobucket~it's free. You upload there then copy and paste here.

Hey I had the same problem with my house plants and identifying them. Posting them here is a great option but also you can use google. I went to images and googled house plants and scrolled through until I found ones that looked the same, you'll also find some of the sites that pop up have pics of plants. I didn't find a really good site that had a large list of plants with pics. Only little sites that specialized in a few. However I did identify all my plants throught that. I had about 4 or 5 new ones that I identified that way.

that's great you could do that karen, but the beauty of putting pics here for identification is that you can put it up, then walk away and when you come back, we've got it for you! thumbup along with great advice if you need it.

i personally don't have time or patience to wade through all the google images...

Hey everyone! I know it has been a while since I've last replied, very sorry for that. Currently, most of my plants have died for a reason I do not know! I tried not to pour too little or too much water, I tried changing their soil but eventually they've died :( Only two of these plants have survived which are both flowering ones.
Here are the pics of the flowers that have survived

for a while, the second one has stopped flowering! Is that a bad sign? But the leaves and stems seem quite healthy and new leaves keep growing.

I'd highly appreciate your replies, thank you :)

I don't really know, but I keep these plants in my balcony. Now that you've mentioned the name, I did a search on it via yahoo and I guess that it is a ganzania. Thanks.
Just to note, recently the weather in Dubai was very unexpecting. Usually, my city is humid and hot, but during the winter it is usually between 18 to 30 degrees celcius, but this year it has been flunctuating from 12 and it was quite windy as well.

And also, -removed- is one of the most helpful websites I have found. They have pictures and everything.

Dodge, I grew some last year. Outside they need to be planted a little on the deep side and not watered very often.

Don't you guys mean Gazania?

Here's it's profile--- Gazania, click me.

Most info you can find here on the Garden Helper....on the right of your page you should see a google box where you can either search google or the garden helper. That's very useful when trying to find specific info. thumbup

I love Gazania, grew a lot of them over the years. clap

How many times a week or month do you water them? I water mine like once a week when I notice that the soil gets dry. By the way, mine had stopped flowering for months now, is that a bad sign?

yikes

have no idea what your temperatures are.
in the summer at 80º I water them daily.....
They seemed to act like a late bloomer here.

First time I did them.. Then perhaps they going into the dormant stage for a while and dont bloom......Let they go and see what happens.
