Sounding stupid - what is the difference between image stabilized zoom and optical image stabilized zoom?

optical zoom (not sure about the stabilized part) is where the lens actually adjusts, like a magnifying glass.

if it is a digital zoom, it is like making a picture bigger on your computer. might or might not be "grainy".

My book says.
DIgital zoom is fixed at the selected zoom factor
and the focal length shifts to maximum telephoto.
This enables a faster shutter speed and less chance of th camera shake that a shot taken at the same angle of view with standard or off.....
