what type of flat iron do you use? My sister flat ironed my hair and it looked cute. She has a Paul Mitchell ceramic flat iron that she paid $150.00 for. My niece has a CHI that she paid 199.00 for. Their hair does look great but I don't want to invest that much money if I can't use it. I've tried before and burned my neck but my the contraption I used is wider. So, what type should I get as a trial run. I don't mind investing money if it's going to be for the long haul.

I've got very curly hair and I use a 'slim line' Conair straightener for $22.99, works like a dream.

My daughter has Very curley hair and she uses a ceramic flat iron. She got 2 from Sally's Beauty supply store a 3 inch and a 1.5 inches,, ,, I think it was around 30$ apiece,, .. Do you have a Sally's Beauty supply store around you?? IF not Most beauty supply stores have them and the quality is better than walmart or drug stores.

Johnny went to town today and stopped at Sally's and picked up one that was $50.00. I don't know what brand he ended up with - I haven't looked yet.

She's so pretty. Is your husband Asian? Do you think if I do my hair like that that I'll look like her?

I used to iron my hair too. Now it's too short to iron.

I know exactly what you mean Jiffy. Your daughter is beautiful.

thank you sheri. i think so too. she's a good girl. when her hair was long, the weight pulled out the wave. but now, it's short and "flips" where she doesn't want it to.

One of my nieces, who is 28, told us over the weekend that she had been to a dermatologist because she thought she was loosing her hair in a spot. What has happened to her, at this late date,is her hair is starting to wave (just like mine and her mothers) and at the crown of her head the the wave goes one way and the other part goes the other. She said the doctor laughed at her and didn't even charge her.

I have been cursed with naturally curly hair, but like to wear it both ways. I use a cheap~ie flatiron from Walmart, Andis is the name brand & I love it. It is the slim type of iron. To protect my hair, I use CHI silk infusion, and also use a CHI ceramic heat protector spray, both available at JCPenney hair salon. I also use a hair wax from Sally's when I flip out the ends, it looks really cute, and holds the flips.

After all this discussion and sending Johnny on a flat iron finding trip (hope he doesn't notice my hair today), I left it curly today. I don't know how much time it's going to take me to master this task and I had to leave for work today. I'm going to work on it tonight.

Sheri, glad to hear your niece wasn't loosing her hair, believe me when that happens it hurts.

My daughter was in 12th grade when she started going bald in one spot, all the tears didn't help. We had her see a doctor who confirmed that she has alopecia areata, a disease for which there is no cure as of now. Today she still has most of her hair but that one spot remains bald. We are trying to help it along with creams from Europe, at least she isn't loosing all her hair.

I've heard of that disease. I thought maybe it was caused by stress.

When we lived in Reno, one of our neighbor's sons had alopecia totalis - I think he was about 14. He was completely bald, and most people thought he had cancer. He had a terrible attitude about it all and was very aggressive. We tried to be kind to him, but he kept destroying our sons toys and things - he was only a toddler then...

I'm glad your daughter only has it in one spot.

By the way... most of the wigs that are created by Locks for Love go to Alopecia patients - NOT chemo patients as most people think.

Is there a chance that it will go away and the hair grows back?

DD had alopecia when she was three years old, took two years before it grew back in. They said it was from the allergic reaction she had to Ceclor.

I knew a boy in high school who didn't have any hair. I guess he had it too. He said it happened when he was 12 and never grew back. I'm glad your daughters hair grew back. I'm sure it's a traumatic thing to have happen.

my ex husband had it. his hair was more like charlie brown's. just a few wisps. so he shaved his head. ellie thought it was cool, she could run her toy cars (she loved matchbox cars) on his head and the wheels didn't get tangled lol yikes lol and his was stress induced. his mother came to live with us. it all fell out. she moved to his sister's it all came back. as he's gotten older, it has gotten thinner, but not like before. although, i wonder, he used to like to pull his hair when he had a headache. could that have had anything to do with it? why touched why

My daughter's hasn't all come back, just a few wisps of hair on the spot. We're only too glad another one didn't appear.
They do say it's stress related and at the time she was in grade 12 so we pushed it on stress with the final year of school and exams. That was 3 years ago.
The good part is she can hide the spot with the rest of her hair.

I'm glad your daughter can hide that area because I'm sure it causes her more stress. Like i said my niece, my sisters, my daughters, mother and I all have wavy or curly hair and we have a spot at the crown of our head that wants to divide no matter what we do. People tell me all the time that "you have a bald spot" which I really don't it's just the way my hair waves. I try to cover it and spray the hair in place but if it's windy....

My daughter had to use a special spearmint/peppermint shampoo from a 'natural' store. Don't know if it really worked or not but as I said...her hair did grow back in~just curlier in that spot.
