It seems we have replaced pen and paper behind. I was just wondering... If anyone keeps a.....

Paper/book Garden Journal

or

Paper/book Personal Life Journal

I have attempted a garden journal many times. They have fallen by the wayside after a few months each time. I was most interested in bloom times and seed placement/germination. I still have them and refer to them on occasion. I have maps of my yard on them so I can put in dates and places where I have planted things. I have never journaled or blogged on line about this stuff.

I have started garden journals and personal journals many times. They seem to fall by the way side as time gets so precious. I do refer to my garden journals at times. I jot down things i want to do so I don't forget. right now I am in the process of doing a scrapbook on my flowers including a fact sheet which I found on a site. Wish I had more time to work on it.

Ps I have a picture of my journal on another thread on here somewhere haha

Thanks for the move. I was looking and could not figure out where to put this. LOL.

I guess my winter thoughts are creeping in and I was thinking. Maybe I should start writing things in a journal. That maybe it would be nice for my grand kids (if my daughter ever has any she seems to happy footloose and free) haha

Then I thought what if all my backup systems fail on my computer for my flower database and Garden journals. If I had it in a paper form maybe it would be more secure. I started printing some of my favorite phots and putting them in a journal today. I will see how long this lasts.

Are you talking personal journal/diary for your grandkids, Cinta? I have 3 adult children 35, 32 and 29. And no grands. That's why I had a couple more kids in my 40's. None of my kids is interested in gardening. A garden journal and the info would be totally for myself. I have never wanted to write a personal journal.

My sister in law is making a scrapbook of her house and gardens to pass on to who ever has the house after her. With garden and plant info and work she has done on the house. I thought that was a great idea. When someone buys a house with lots of gardens they might not know what everything is how to take care of it. We put so much work into our gardens we should share our info for future gardeners.

My daughter has no plans for children so I will be grandchild less. But someone might be able to use any info I leave. lol

I do have a lot of my gardens mapped out with what is what and where it is situated in the yard. I really enjoyed that a family did that for me when I bought my first house. I was a total novice in a garden then. We only had that house for a year so I really didn't get to enjoy it much.

I do too Tina. I have what I planted each year & if I liked it and how it did.
At first I had it mixed in with my house journal (when I bought things, etc.0--but now I have the gardening in 2 seperate books--1 is a GH book it has names, addresses, & Birding records & then how to care for some of my plants.

the larger notebook one has what I planted, when I planted it & where it is, cost, & where it was bought or came from.

as I get older, I streamline things--to make it simpler on my mind rolz lol

The only thing I have written down is a laminated garden planner that I got for christmas. It has all the companion plants, number of plants per person, and a schedule for when to plant what. Everything else is on the computer. And if I lose it all I'm going to cry buckets.

Do not do floppys they will go bad and you will lose the info. If you can get someone to transfer it over to CD you will have a better chance of keeping the info.

Tina, I am going to do both a personal and garden journal. Our kids are funny how they enjoy being free from kids and that kind of responsibility. I was very young when I dreamed of the house, two kids and the picket fence. What was wrong with me? haha

Absolutely nothing as far as I know. Raising kids is the most important thing I've done with my life. I planted a few trees along the way also.

I mapped things out when we first moved to this house but over the years the wind, birds, drought and whatever else have moved things around. I used all sorts of markers and stakes to be able to identify things. It worked for a while but I've stopped doing that.

Sometimes I write in a personal journal.

I have tried two journals and after awhile I start forgetting to write in them, so then I NEVER do any more.

I use to raise Society Finches, and I kept a journal about them, which I still have.

The other one was to jot down every day at least one beautiful thing, or pleasant event, out of the chaotic day. This was basically to lift my own spirits; but, it fell by the way-side.
