I just learned how to do this, LAST YEAR, believe it or not...
My scout mom friend came over, *she used to work in a
greenhouse*
and shoulded me what to do...
We dipped them in a Rooting Hormone, and then just stuck them in water, but made sure alot of the other end *leave end* was sticking out..
And they formed roots in a short time..
(it does take a bit longer if the stem is more woody *brown*
than green)...
**I had alot of woody, cause I waited so long to snip back
~~hey, I was chicken**
But this year, I am going to do an experiment,
because I have sooooo many to do this year....
*I found like 30 of them, thrown out at the local cemetary
at fall time...*
I am going to try both ways and see which is easiest..
Water and RH or Dirt and RH...
The thing to do when rooting them and where to cut,
depends on the plant..
And how woody it is...
If it's a fairly new plant, just snip as needed.
*and strip off a few of the bottom leaves...*
If it's older, maybe just above where the woody (brown)
meets new (green).
But always make sure you strip some leaves from the bottom
cause it's at the leave nodes is where the roots form...
